Edge of the seat thriller. Eventhough I do feel some storylines are not necessary or too long at times.

@TheAromaofBooks #Bookspin
Bookspin number #10
Black Wolf by Kathleen Ken
The narrator is Eva Kaminsky
Hours : 14 h 7m 4 s
Unabridged auidobook
Is actually good ,
the main character in my book is know as a super recognizer, someone who never forgets a face , plus the book is filled with the author's own time working under the detection of the U.S. Department Defense, it's actually really good .already 33% in it

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! 9mo

I was hoping for a well researched and comprehensive analysis and narrative of the history of Eastern Europe and its complex relationship with nationalism and ethnic identity. Instead, Anne Applebaum delivered a rather heartless travelogue of her journey through the former Soviet Union. Her comments on people‘s appearances are prejudiced, condescending, and derogatory. She continuously fat-shames people to the point where I almost dnf‘d the book.

Ugh. Devestating and infuriating. A book of collected stories from those affected by the meltdown. Citizens, soldiers, scientists, and volunteers. Took me all month to read it. It was good.. just heavy. All the triggers btw..

KathyWheeler I read this when it first came out and you‘re right — it was all of that. It was so difficult to read, not because it wasn‘t good, but because it was so devastating. 1y

Fascinating reportage, between journalism and anthropology.

CBee Oh, Voices From Chernobyl - I couldn‘t finish it 🙁 Maybe just not the right time for me to read it? Then again, is it ever the right time? I‘m currently listening to The Escape Artist and it‘s the same sort of thing. Important to know and learn but goodness it breaks your heart in the process 😞 1y
vivastory @CBee There are passages from Voices From etc that are forever etched in my mind. Def very difficult. 1y
CBee @vivastory I can imagine and understand! 1y

jlhammar Love Alexievich. Her oral history style is so effective. Last Witnesses and The Unwomanly Face of War were also amazing. I'm hoping to get to Secondhand Time later this year. 1y
vivastory @jlhammar I've been meaning to read The Womanly Face of War for awhile now. I was completely unaware of Last Witnesses. Thanks for the rec! 1y
