Freedom in Congo Square | Carole Boston Weatherford

And wrapping up my #kidlit #2016favorites is Freedom in Congo Square. A book about slavery for young kids that is written st their level and acknowledges moments of levity without putting smiles on working slaves' faces.

The Wonder | Emma Donoghue

Wrapping up my #2016favorites is The Wonder. I could not put this book down - I had to keep reading to know what happened next! This is an intriguing story with a sense of urgency and a well-developed Irish village setting. Great for fans of historical fiction.

emilyhaldi I loved this one too! 7y
brownekr I bought this MONTHS ago and still haven't cracked it! Will have to get on it ASAP in the new year--glad to hear you liked it! 7y
Reviewsbylola This one was just ok for me but I think I may have liked it more if I had it in hard copy instead of an ebook. Sometimes hat makes a huge difference for me. 7y

A few more #kidlit #2016favorites to share... Some Writer is a beautiful biography of beloved author EB White. You can tell from the details in this book's design and illustrations that Melissa Sweet has deep love for her subject matter. A masterpiece!

When Breath Becomes Air | Paul Kalanithi

Just a few more #2016favorites to share! When Breath Becomes Air is a beautiful, sad, sad book. What happens when a surgeon is diagnosed with late stage cancer and has to experience the patient's side of medicine? Definitely a worthwhile read. If you lived Atul Gawande's Being Mortal, this is a must-read, too.

Bookshop on the Corner | Jenny Colgan

This one wins the prize for yummiest book I devoured the fastest. My book club chose this for January and it's a book-lover's dream! A little romance, a to-die-for Scottish Highlands setting, and lots of love for books! This would be a fun choice for the #2017readharder "books about books" category! #2016favorites

Ghost | Jason Reynolds
post image

More #2016favorites today! Ghost was one of my very favorite middle grade reads. It's a story that deals with a lot of tough stuff (living in poverty, an abydive dad), but with a lot of heart and humor. Jason Reynolds is a master of voice and the #audiobook is read with tons of expression, so this was a great listen. #weneeddiversebooks #ownvoices

And continuing my #kidlit #2016favorites... I have pushed The Inquisitor's Tale into the hands of so many people! It's an adventure story with lots of humor and it delves into philosophical issues like why people hate other groups of people. A fun story but also a story with a lot of (child appropriate) meat on its bones.

Hope everyone had a marvelous Christmas and/or a great weekend! I'm continuing my list of #2016favorites with The Rise of the Rocket Girls by Nathalia Holt. A fascinating story about the women computers involved in the development of the space program. (Also don't miss Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shatterly if you're interested in this. It provides more of a big picture while Rocket Girls provides more details on the day to day.)

And continuing my #kidlit #2016favorites... It Ain't so Awful Falafel is reminiscent of the Judy Blume books I devoured as a kid, that realistic fiction dealing with family and friends.

Continuing my countdown of #2016favorites with Evicted. I read this months ago and CANNOT stop thinking about it. This book should be required reading for all public librarians.
