Mehso-so

Though this one hits a lot of my book challenges for this year- #Booked2018 (POC Author), #ReadingWomenChallenge (fantasy novel written by a woman of color), #1AMonthChallenge - and I had high hopes for it (the premise! the cover!!), ultimately, this one disappointed me. The nonstop action leaves little room for deeper character development and the fantasy world building holds promise but not enough time spent delivering on that angle, either... I

TorieStorieS I know I‘m more prone to be a harsh critic of fantasy, so I hope others enjoy this one more than I did! And thanks, @BarbaraTheBibliophage for the wonderful bookmark! Also pictured, my #bujo page for #Booked2018 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I love the cover for this book—it‘s so dramatic! My little bookmark is honored to be in its presence. ❤️❤️ 6y
TorieStorieS Thank you, @BarbaraTheBibliophage - the cover art, I must admit, is what initially captured my attention to choose this one! 😃 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @TorieStorieS It is captivating, although I‘m sorry to hear the book was less so. 6y
TorieStorieS @BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘m sure this will be a big hit for some- there is a lot to like here, but fantasy is probably the genre that I am the pickiest about, pretty covers aside! 6y

Homegoing: A novel | Yaa Gyasi

Pickpick

Almost linked short stories rather than a novel, this is a gritty and unapologetic look at colonialism, slavery, and 300 years of black history in both Ghana and the US as played out in two diverging branches of one family. BookishMe Hope to start reading this, as soon as I complete one of the current reads ;)) 6y

When I couldn‘t sleep last night, I decided to create my own reading prompt challenge. And since I want to make things do-able if anyone decides to join me, I made my own crazy swap out rule. To also make it more likely for people to play along with me, I‘ve decided that Jan. 1, 2019 I will randomly choose one person who has completed the challenge and send them a bookish surprise box. To sign up, just tag me in a post. #1amonthchallenge

RebelReader I'm gonna add this one to my challenge spreadsheet. I'm a bit of a sucker for these challenges. I love picking the books, keeping track and of course reading the books! 😂😂 6y
tomes4gnomes I like it! Especially prompt 8, which seems to give me permission to buy a brand new release hardback (something I rarely let myself do). Count me in! (edited) 6y
SamHeartCoffee Cool! This is such a good idea. 6y
