I‘ve read all these picture books, mg books, ya and gn. I own several of them but they are still packed away from the move. All are great in telling stories from different points of view on that fateful day. I have a story too. I was newly married to my then husband who is from Brooklyn and I had just moved to New York that summer from California. ⬇️

mrp27 We kissed each other goodbye that morning and went to work. Me in Garden City Long Island and he to his firehouse in Queens. I didn‘t see him again for 3 days but I was lucky enough to make contact with him that evening. He was ok. Our lives changed that morning. It was difficult starting a new life in a city that was completely changed. It was difficult navigating a new marriage under those circumstances. Ten years later in September of 2011 (edited) 3y
mrp27 nearly to the date, our marriage ended. It shattered me but 20 years later I am thankful to have had that time, to have shared that love. I am thankful for his service that day and his continued service all these years. This day is always difficult for so many reasons. Thanks for reading. 3y

A beautifully illustrated book, telling an important part of a difficult situation. It focuses on how people dropped everything to help in a crisis. Just beautiful.

This simple yet powerful book for kids tells the story of the water rescue the US Coast Guard initiated on September 11, 2001 that brought in boats, ships, and other water vessels of every kind to help the million or so New Yorkers that had no other way to get off the island of Manhattan.
