Sisters, Saints and Sibyls Women of the Beat
"If you want to understand Beat women, call us transitional-a bridge to the next generation, who in the 1960's, when a young woman's right to leave home was no longer an issue, would question every assumption that limited women's lives and begin the long, never-to-be-completed work of transforming relationships with men." A great find at my library bookstore, so many interesting women.

And talented women.

Pickpick

The Beat Generation is my favorite part of American Lit. This book was both encouraging and depressing at the same time. What these women accomplished during the 40s and 50s was truly remarkable. One thing that sticks out is that they're only white women included (Billie Holiday does get a mention, but she's a jazz singer included as a muse). I'll have to look into WOC beat writers.
