Not My Type: One Woman vs. a President
Not My Type: One Woman vs. a President | E Jean Carroll
8 posts | 5 read | 3 to read
"Delightful . . . We already know that E. Jean Carroll looked smashing when she went to court versus Donald J. Trump. But her irrepressible voice was, necessarily, repressed...Now she is saying pretty much everything." --The New York Times Book Review"Buoyant." --The New York TimesA hilarious, hopeful, revelatory behind the scenes account of the trials that riveted the nation You've heard about the tantrums, the seething, the storming out of court, yes. But what about E. Jean's side of the story? What about the flight suits, the bottle of green Chartreuse, and the bob? Not My Type puts you in a better seat than the jury box. You will hear Alina Habba, Esq., "Trump's most beautiful attorney," asking E. Jean to "list" the people she has "slept with"--a list which turns out to be so marvelous, it is worth twice the price of this book. You will experience the fear and loathing of E. Jean's "psychiatric evaluations," and hear how she tries to cheer up Trump's gloomy, $750-an-hour shrink by telling him about the strange white tablet Hunter S. Thompson gave her. You will be in on the choosing of the "clothes for court," and the creation of "the look" a look that will help the jury connect the younger E. Jean who is attacked by Trump in Bergdorf's with the older E. Jean who sits in the courtroom. It's all here: two dazzling trials, the full-tilt high stakes, the laugh-out-loud commentary, and the inspiring fact that a woman is never too old to get even.

I really enjoyed her writing! The absolute courage it must have taken for her to come forward is unimaginable. 4.5⭐️

Upsetting, honest, and starkly funny, E Jean Carroll is a national treasure for her journalistic legacy and well as her historical one with the most flawed president we‘ve ever had. Read by the author, learning about her personal journey was fascinating.

I knew of E. Jean Carroll‘s rape case against Trump but I live under a rock and don‘t keep up with celebrities or the wealthy so I didn‘t know what I was in for when I downloaded this audio other than a patron at work going on about it and sparking my curiosity. E.Jean narrates the audio. She‘s brave and funny and her retelling of this case was quite unique. I love that she‘s donating the +$100M she wins to all the causes Trump hates. Brilliant!

Not sure what I expected, but this was far better and actually, strangely enjoyable. I‘m going to look for Carroll‘s other books because her voice is very readable. There were some difficult parts, as expected, but overall she makes this memoir funny, relatable, quick-paced, and memorable. Highly recommend.

Julsmarshall Ooh this was available on audio right now from my library! Downloaded! 4w
ravenlee @Julsmarshall does Carroll read it herself? 4w
Julsmarshall @ravenlee She sure does and I love her voice! 3w

This right here is why I can actually say I‘m enjoying this book. Carroll‘s sense of humor is just fantastic.

…like all survivors of sexual assault who take their cases to court, my body is at the heart of the case…

There‘s a theme in my current reading.

Just picked up today‘s library #bookhaul - now all I need is time to catch up on all my library books. I believe this makes four at the moment.

TheBookHippie Let me know how it is. I bought it to support her but haven‘t read it yet! 2mo
ravenlee @TheBookHippie I started it today and it‘s already incredible. The format is unique and very well suited to the material, and Carroll‘s voice as narrator is delightful. I know I won‘t “enjoy” it for long, but so far so good. 1mo

I didn‘t really follow either of the trials that has awarded E. Jean in upwards now of $100 million (there is 9% compounded daily for lack of payment, so all those appeals & delays are adding up). I‘m not familiar with her writing style. Is it the best book I‘ve ever read? No. Do I support women? Yes. Do I support a woman that wants to donate her money that she was awarded to causes like women‘s reproductive rights, voting, healthcare? Yes

ncsufoxes We live in a world where women continue to not be believed about their experiences. It takes a strong woman to stand up to someone & stronger to take on someone like she did. I hope that she receives the money she was awarded (doubtful because I sincerely believe T is broke). Trigger warning because she does graphically describe the incident. #antifabookclub 3mo
TheBookHippie I ordered this just to keep. I‘ve been following the story a long long time.. 3mo
lil1inblue I'm thinking about ordering this just to order it. I don't know if I could read it due to the trigger warning, but I can put it on the shelf and lend it to friends! I've followed the story as much as I was able while avoiding triggers. I am in awe of her courage. 3mo
StaceGhost I really want to read this for the marvelous list and court clothes intellectual gymnastics— I hope the other reasons can stand as obvious! Great review and rec 🙏 (edited) 3mo
ncsufoxes This is going to be one of my #14books14weeks book (#4). I‘m behind, as expected. @Liz_M 3mo
