Gone Before Goodbye
Gone Before Goodbye | Harlan Coben, Reese Witherspoon
Combining the storytelling talents of Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben into one masterpiece of suspense fiction, Gone Before Goodbye is the unforgettable story of an indomitable woman, trapped in a conspiracy she helped create but can't understand. Her harrowing search for the truth could expose a conspiracy woven throughout the exclusive world of the global ultra elite--but at an unfathomable cost to Maggie herself. Maggie McCabe is teetering on the brink. A highly skilled and renowned Army combat surgeon, she has always lived life at the edge, where she could make the most impact. And it was all going to plan...until it wasn't. Upside down after a devastating series of tragedies leads to her medical license being revoked, Maggie has lost her purpose, but not her nerve or her passion. At her lowest point, she is thrown a lifeline by a former colleague, an elite plastic surgeon whose anonymous clientele demand the best care money can buy, as well as absolute discretion. Halfway across the globe, sequestered in the lap of luxury and cutting-edge technology, one of the world's most mysterious men requires unconventional medical assistance. Desperate, and one of the few surgeons in the world skilled enough to take this job, Maggie enters his realm of unspeakable opulence and fulfills her end of the agreement. But when the patient suddenly disappears while still under her care, Maggie must become a fugitive herself--or she will be the next one who is... Gone Before Goodbye

I honestly wasn‘t expecting much when I started listening to this but I was pleasantly surprised! The full cast - including Reese Witherspoon herself - were excellent and embodied the words with real emotion. It‘s a rollercoaster ride around the world and I thoroughly enjoyed it! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Thank you so much for my #jolabokaflod parcel. I have been in hospital, and rehab and only just managed to get to open my gifts. I can‘t wait to dive into both books. I have plenty of reading time ahead of me as I get used to my new knees.

Started reading this one today. Huge fan of Coben, so hoping for a good ride! I volunteer on ? as the volunteer in charge of food aid distribution. My feet need a rest now. So many people in need that it was insane. Yesterday I finished the new Camilla Läckberg book, and it was fantastic! The last 50 some pages - the best work she‘s ever done ?

This made for a really good audiobook w/ it being a full cast including Reese herself! I went into this not really knowing what to expect but I enjoyed it & it was a crazy, thrilling ride. I wonder if we will see the protagonist again in a future book.

In my mood-driven subjective grading scale this entire grid fell within a solid A (4.75 ⭐️) to a solid B (4⭐️). I love to assemble my grid and realize that happened! Tagged the one that keeps me wondering if there will be more.

5 ⭐️= Loved It, would recommend to others. A+
4 ⭐️= Liked it, would love to discuss. Solid B
3.5 ⭐️ = Close to either pick or so-so
3 ⭐️= Meh, no need to discuss. Avg C
2 ⭐️=Nope D
1 ⭐️=DNF F

Aims42 Here for the nonsensical, emotion driven rating system too 🙋‍♀️ I was just recently explaining to friends that I really only rate books between 3-5 stars (3 is “meh, okay. I finished it”, 4 is “really good!!”, 5 is “OMG! EVERYONE MUST READ THIS!”). If I‘m not liking the book and wouldn‘t give it 3 stars, I DNF and move on. Sheesh, you would‘ve thought I said every swear word known and unknown to man by the looks on their faces 🤣🤣🤣🤣 2mo
Suet624 A good month for you!! 2mo
Donna1980 Just picked Wreck up in Canada, excited to read as not released in the UK yet. Found Sandwich beautifully written but a little tough on the heart as a mum whose boys are only going to be at home for a few more years! How did you find Wreck? 2mo

marleed @Donna1980 I really liked this one too. I want Rocky as my friend! 2mo
marleed @Aims42 I seldom have books rated less than 3* because I bail before I feel like I‘ve given them a fair enough chance for a rating. Sometimes though I do stick with a book I don‘t like (my iRL bookclub is good for that) and the good I get for it is most often reminding me of what I‘m not interested in reading🤣 2mo
marleed @Suet624 I love putting the my grids together because to get this comparison of what I read. As m reading a book I seldom think about how it compares to my previous read. …Except wait, I am specifically choosing to read a mindless HEA now as a reset on my most recent brutal read. 2mo
Aims42 @marleed I finish a lot of books I wouldn‘t typically for my IRL bookclub LOL 😆 2mo

Quite the page turner. You‘re not sure who to trust. Some characters (okay all) are a bit too exaggerated but it makes for an enjoyable read.

Maggie‘s life as an adrenaline junky war zone plastic surgeon is halted as she‘s overcome by grief and addiction following the murder of her husband. But that‘s only the beginning because there‘s an obscenely wealthy world out there willing to pay American surgeons high prices to do upscale backroom room surgeries in foreign countries. What!? Fascinating and entertaining. I hope we hear again from Maggie soon!

tpixie So it was good?! I wish they would highlight the pages that Reese wrote versus Harlan.!! I wonder how that collaboration worked and came to be…. 2mo
marleed @tpixie I thought it was a fun read particularly if you suspend disbelief a bit. I YouTubed interviews after finishing to see how the collaboration happened. Harlan is in the details and Reese is in the concept. Apparently, Reese came up with the concept contacted Harlan, who doesn‘t typically collaborate but was intrigued and within a few hours they had an outline for the story. 2mo
tpixie @marleed thanks for the background info! I‘m very interested in reading this. I love ‘ YouTubing‘ authors! 2mo
marleed @tpixie Me too! I caught several interviews were Reese and Harlan must have done the morning shows circuit over one or two days. I had to laugh because it must be hard to hear the same thing from multiple interviewers and respond as though it‘s the first time you‘ve heard the question. 2mo

3.5⭐Light Pick
I nearly DNF'd this early on due to the slow, monotonous pacing. I hung in there due to the narration. It‘s performed like a duet but with multiple narrators, and that is where it shines. Eventually, the pace picks up with a thickening plot interspersed with adrenaline-infused action sequences. The ending was a tad confusing, and the whole thing was a little OTT, but overall, not bad.
