5 posts | 5 read | 2 to read
From the breakout SFF superstar author of Murderbot comes the remarkable sequel to the USA Today and Sunday Times bestselling novel, Witch King. A fantasy of epic scope, Queen Demon is a story of power and friendship, of trust and betrayal, and of the families we choose. Dahin believes he has clues to the location of the Hierarchs' Well, and the Witch King Kai, along with his companions Ziede and Tahren, knowing there's something he isn't telling them, travel with him to the rebuilt university of Ancartre, which may be dangerously close to finding the Well itself. Can Kai stop the rise of a new Hierarch? And can he trust his companions to do whats right? Follow Kai to the end of the world in this thrilling sequel to the USA Today-bestselling Witch King.

4/5

With a new theory of where the Heirarch's Well may be, Kai and his allies work to ensure that no new Heirarch will be created. In the past, Kai must work to bring the dust witches into Bashasa's army as they continue their fight to defeat the Heirarchs.

I love the ways the two story entangle. We know how the war ends, but the details of what truly happened are slowly revealed through both the past and present story lines.

I didn‘t find this one quite as immersive and difficult to put down as the first, but Wells is an incredibly gifted storyteller. There‘s plenty of action and deep history of the world Wells created. If the real world wasn‘t such a mess, I probably would have loved this more and finished it faster. Kudos to Wells for keeping me coming back.

I know a lot of people don't like this series because it's not a Murderbot clone but I really enjoy my time in this world with these characters. Once again this is a dual timeline narrative and both were compelling looks at Kai and the gang. There was a sense of closure for the narrative arcs but still left room for the story to grow.

peanutnine I can't wait to read this! But I need to reread Witch King first to refresh my memory 4w

Thanks to Tor and NetGalley for the eARC of Queen Demon. This was an amazing follow up to The Witch King. You MUST read The Witch King first.

peanutnine Ahhh I can't wait! Might have to do a reread of Witch King first though, it's been a minute 🤔 2mo
Pogue @peanutnine I will let you know that Queen Demon starts right where The Witch King ends. No “last time on The Witch King” it just jumps right in, and ended on a cliffhanger that made me scream. 2mo
