Next from the library stack: THE BABY DRAGON CAFE. I sort of expected this one to be a quick bail, but I‘m still here after 75 pages. That said, there‘s a LOT of unnecessary repetition, and the emotions seem a bit surface-level given the characters‘ tragic backstories. THAT said, the dragons are cute and I love how much Saphira loves them. We‘ll see if I finish or not.

It‘s fine, but specifically when said with the intonation of a 15-year girl. It‘s neither good, nor bad, it just sort of is and I wish Qureshi would have committed harder to writing either romance or fantasy, because it‘s just goofy how the dragons are seemingly modeled on dogs. Also, it does not need to be one of those “and now for the next couple” romance series, the universe is not believable enough for that.

A perfect cozy escape - adorable baby dragons, minimal conflict, romance, brief fake marriage, baked goods. Will read more.

With a few changes this could have worked as a children's/middle grade book. It did not work as an adult romance, the writing was very juvenile and repetitive, there was no plot tension or relationship tension, and it was an instalove romance which I can't stand.

It was too twee for me. I will also never forgive the author for calling a dragon ‘Sparky‘.

Cute. It's very “cosy fantasy“, with very little drama, limited miscommunications, easily solved issues between the MCs. The worldbuilding doesn't go very deep.

All in all, a nice light read, but not one I'll be rhapsodising about, if that makes sense.

"I'll just read a chapter to get started," they said.

It's not particularly brilliantly different to other romances; it'd be basically the same story if it were a cafe for baby horses, in many ways. But it's light and fun and quick, so it's working for me right now.

This was a really sweet romance book.

Sweet, funny, fluffy. A cute read, but without much to it. Some elements of found family, of growth from grief, and finding a place in the world, but not a lot of depth to them? I enjoyed it, but it was very much just fluffy — not that that‘s a bad thing, especially these days. And I mean, I‘d take on a baby dragon any day, so. One big plus was the actual COMMUNICATION between the two MCs. A nice escapist read.
