So, yeah, I play Heroes of Legend, y'know, the MMO. I'm not like obsessed or addicted or anything. It's just a game. Anyway, there was this girl in my guild who I really liked because she was funny and nerdy and a great healer. Of course, my mates thought it was hilarious I was into someone I'd met online. And they thought it was even more hilarious when she turned out to be a boy IRL. But the joke's on them because I still really like him. And now that we're together, it's going pretty well. Except sometimes I think Kit-that's his name, sorry I didn't mention that-spends way too much time in HoL. I know he has friends in the guild, but he has me now, and my friends, and everyone knows people you meet online aren't real. I mean. Not Kit. Kit's real. Obviously. Oh, I'm Drew, by the way. This is sort of my story. About how I messed up some stuff and figured out some stuff. And fell in love and stuff.

It's here at last!!!!

Pre-ordered and had to wait for ages, it was published in July.

Jari-chan Uh, that looks promising! 😍 1mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Wow, your bookshop really isn‘t doing well with the preorders… (have you tried Blackwells?) 1mo
julesG @thegirlwiththelibrarybag no, and I'm not the only one complaining about it. I have two more pre-orders from that particular (large chain of bookshops) one is Katabasis (sprayed edges edition), the other is the next Travis Baldree (also special edition). I'm considering pre-ordering from Blackwells in future. It might not arrive on publishing day but probably within 5-10 business days. 1mo

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG, which is almost instantaneous in comparison 😅 did they offer any explanation for the delay? 1mo
julesG @thegirlwiththelibrarybag The standard reply in these cases is something along the lines of "the publisher is at fault they don't/won't/can't deliver the item at the moment". I'll just have to use Blackwells or find a reliable independent bookshop near me. 1mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG, the only issue I‘ve had with Blackwells (isn‘t really an issue tbh) was when they refunded a preorder because the publication date changed (I don‘t think the book is coming out tbh, but this in no way stopped me from preordering it a second time). So at least they are proactive about it, there was no moment of limbo. 1mo

Looking for Group, by Alexis Hall (2025, originally published 2016)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Premise: Two university students make a surprising connection in an online gaming community.

Review: This is a charming new-adult queer romance. Not only does it describe first love in adorably realistic detail, but it also deals with some interesting social and parasocial issues that I haven‘t seen addressed in other romances. ⬇️

Mattsbookaday I will say that about half the novel takes places inside a video game, and as someone who is not a big fan of gaming it was a bit much, but otherwise this was a great surprise. 2mo

Such a sweet (PG-13) romance written in a fun and interesting way! Hall created a guild of characters that I wanted to go raiding with by the end of the book--and I don't have more than surface-level knowledge of MMOs. Extra points for the Scott Lynch/Hawkeye/Ryan North references. Next time I will try to check for a glossary in the book before I go searching the internet for definitions... #romance #mm #gaming #nerdery

Getting through the formatting to the story (stopping frequently to look up gaming abbreviations). I can appreciate any character reading the "latest Scott Lynch."

BeththeBookDragon Me too. The second Gentleman Bastards is on my hold list! 9y
Zelma "Drew felt like a knob." ? that made me laugh out loud. 9y

Really, really sweet novel about gamers, gaming, geek love, and falling for someone you didn't expect. Though technically adult, this would also be a super LGBTQ young adult recommendation - sexy times are "off stage". Though I didn't understand every word as a nongamer, I was charmed. ??#biblioweekend
