Waiter to the Rich and Shameless
Waiter to the Rich and Shameless: Confessions of a Five-Star Beverly Hills Server | Paul Hartford
4 posts | 6 read | 3 to read
A down-and-out musician chops off his hair to become a server at the top of the Hollywood food chain, discovering a cloistered world of money, fame, bad behavior and intrigue. Waiter to the Rich and Shameless is not just a peek into the secretive inner workings of a legendary five-star restaurant; it is not just a celebrity tell-all or a scathing corporate analysis. It is a top-tier waiter's personal coming-of-age story, an intimate look into the complicated challenges of serving in the country's most elite, Hollywood-centric dining room while fighting to maintain a sense of self and purpose.

I really did enjoy this book. It was funny and super entertaining. However, I didn‘t really like the narrator. He came across as pretty cocky and in some ways just some of the things he said were a little bit too far over the edge. Overall, it‘s a fun book and I recommend it.

This is an amusing, well narrated audiobook. There are some well-thought-out, valid critiques of the restaurant industry and how corporate management of well-loved establishments can ruin them. There are tons of hilarious anecdotes about celebrities.

CAVEAT: This dude is such a misogynist! Almost every positive story is about men, and women are HEAVILY critiqued for their looks. Plus, his sex life...🤦🏻‍♀️

BUT it is fun.

RaimeyGallant I can't read misogyny with no purpose anymore. :) 7y
Megabooks @RaimeyGallant @8little_paws Yeah, the last 2 hours were harsh. I got so tired of it. I don't know how his wife puts up with him! 7y

ptkpepe98 I think it is the industry, though. Certainly watching cooking shows and observing what goes on in my college's culinary school, I wasn't surprised to read your comment. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage My brother-in-law is a server at a high-end spot in Vegas. He'll call me at 10 or 11pm and tell me he met some famous guy. It's a crazy world! 7y
Megabooks @ptkpepe98 Yeah, he really does have some valid industry critiques, but damn, it's like he's a bro who doesn't realize it. 7y
Megabooks @BarbaraTheBibliophage Crazy! Yes! So many good stories in this book. Russell Crowe and company smoking cocaine, anyone? 😱😱 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage 😱 is right. 7y
Kris10 I waited tables at one of the nicer restaurants in my city during the boom of movie making here. I waited on a bunch of famous people. Ashley Judd brought her dog in her purse and stayed under the table the whole time playing with her 😳😂 7y

This #audible #dailydeal from awhile back is actually pretty good. I'm surprised! I had pretty low expectations, but I'm enjoying it more than Waiter Rant.

Also, I've decided to blank slate my written books. I'm putting The Kind Worth Killing, The Windfall, and A Gentleman in Moscow back in the #TBR. Not because they're bad but because I want to be able to fully enjoy them. Anyone else ever do that?

rachelm I do that all the time. 7y
ApoptyGina69 Many times. I like to circle back if I can't "feel it" just at that moment. Waiter theme: Check out 7y

Fun read from a waiter in a high end exclusive LA restaurant. And yes there are details of celebrity encounters!
