A captivating novel that evokes the author's New York Times bestseller The House at Tyneford Natasha Solomons's breathtaking new novel has it all: a love triangle, family obligations, and rediscovering joy in the face of grief, all set against the alluring backdrop of an English country estate perfect for fans of Downton Abbey It's a terrible thing to covet your brother's girl New Year's Eve, Dorset, England, 1946. Candles flicker, a gramophone scratches out a tune as guests dance and sip champagne-- for one night Hartgrove Hall relives better days. Harry Fox-Talbot and his brothers have returned from World War II determined to save their once grand home from ruin. But the arrival of beautiful Jewish wartime singer Edie Rose tangles the threads of love and duty, and leads to a devastating betrayal. Fifty years later, now a celebrated composer, Fox reels from the death of his adored wife, Edie. Until his connection with his four-year old grandson - a music prodigy - propels him back into life, and ultimately to confront his past. An enthralling novel about love and treachery, joy after grief, and a man forced to ask: is it ever too late to seek forgiveness?

Very enjoyable. The story of a composer and his love for his land and the love of his life. Very human and kept pulling me back to it.

Things I liked about The Sing Collector: the way it spoke about music like it was life, the crumbling old manor house setting, the curmudgeon old men characters, the non-linear storyline telling it both forwards and backwards simultaneously. Things I didn‘t like about The Song Collector: some of the blanks were not filled in, it ended! Overall a really lovely book. I‘ll be looking for more by this author. #doublespin for March @TheAromaofBooks

I wasn‘t sure I was going to get to my March #doublespin book but look, here it is. 60 pages in and I‘m really enjoy the time flip between the two interweaving storylines and the characters of Edie and Harry.

Apparently people in CT take their visit to the DMV seriously. They are not open for another half an hour and already ~15 people waiting outside. Glad I brought a book.

CrowCAH Wow that‘s dedication! 4y
kspenmoll OMG which office is this!!!!! Books are the best traveling companions! 4y
ljuliel I‘ve heard it takes longer now to renew your license. Im@not sure what they‘ve changed , but our DMV is across the street from the library and some days they have waiting lines like that. The librarian told me they‘ve changed or added things to the process which takes longer. 4y

Susanita Long lines because of real ID paperwork? 4y
umbrellagirl @kspenmoll It was Winsted/Winchester. 4y
umbrellagirl @ljuliel I just renew mine at the AAA office in town. 4y
umbrellagirl @Susanita Maybe but a lot of them seemed to have number plates with them. 4y
mcipher I work with DMV and they don‘t want anyone there if you don‘t “really” need to be - so they make it tough 😆 Renew your license at AAA and your car online and avoid DMV branches! 4y
kspenmoll @umbrellagirl never been there. I use AAA in Avon too. Just go to DMV for car reg if necessary. 4y

Mehso-so

This audiobook was just ok for me. It was beautifully written but I just disliked almost all of the characters. I really tried to like them but they were so selfish! I also think people who understand the finer points of music and instruments would like it better than someone like me who doesn‘t 🤷🏼‍♀️. 🌟🌟🌟

I traded in four books for these at various Little Free Libraries in my neighborhood (see my previous post). An eclectic haul to say the least. Anyone read any of these?

GoldenGirl Ive read the hot zone. It's really good. Very scary at how easily the disease passes to others. 7y
Texreader @GoldenGirl I'd just read about that one on Litsy. Super scary. 7y
Ms.Story I remember my 10th grade biology teacher reading us excerpts from The Hot Zone. I was terrified but intrigued 😱 7y

My_novel_obsession The Hot Zone 👏👏👍👍- was an awesome, fascinating and scary read!!! 7y
mjdowens The Hot Zone scared me so bad, I had to get rid of it after I read it. Scariest book I ever read 7y
8leagueboot @mjdowens agreed. I stole my brother's copy when I was way too young to be reading it and promptly returned it (maybe the only time he ever got a book back) 7y
Lmstraubie I haven't read any, but love the fact you have that many #littlefreelibraries in your neighborhood. 7y
Texreader @Lmstraubie I've longed to do one in my yard. But with two in walking distance and the rest so close by the "market" is already pretty diluted. Ok, nice problem to have! Too many little Free Libraries! 7y
Lmstraubie ?? Yes a very good "problem" to have! 7y

Another book on the go at the moment - I loved Solomons' previous books and have high hopes for this one.
