Too Close To The Sun
Too Close To The Sun: The Life and Times of Denys Finch Hatton | Sara Wheeler
1 post | 1 read | 3 to read
Conservationist, scholar, soldier, white hunter and fabled lover - Denys Finch Hatton was an aristocrat of leonine nonchalance. After a dazzling career at Eton and Oxford, he sailed in 1910 for British East Africa - still then the land of the pioneer. Sara Wheeler reveals the truth behind his love affairs with the glamorous aviatrix Beryl Markham, and - famously - with Karen Blixen, a romance immortalised in her memoir Out of Africa. 'No one who ever met him', his Times obituary concluded, 'whether man or woman, old or young, white or black, failed to come under his spell'.

13 days into Spring and we've already had our first day over 30C (91F) This does not bode well for our summer🌞Plus we had these awful hot winds, I haven't watched the news yet but I wouldn't be surprised if there's been fires today.🔥🔥🔥 #WTForecast #hidinginmyductedairconditioning

Sue The smoke up here is terrible and there's a fire ban being imposed as of tomorrow. I'm not sure if my chest is hurting because of the smoke or because I'm ill. Sounds like we need to visit @LeeRHarry 😊 7y
LeeRHarry @Sue oh no! 😔hope you're feeling better soon! I can't believe that there are fire bans already - it's way too early 😔 7y
