Summer Art school isn‘t going as planned for Jade. She was supposed to start with her best friend, but her friend is in the hospital following a suicide attempt. Jade works her feelings into art that keeps coming to life. I loved this coming of age art story of healing and self-discovery. This was my first read of 2024! #LGBTQIA #Comics

4 ⭐ I started reading this book as the galley and ran out of time but I‘m glad I revisited it in its final format. The book is beautiful. It‘s all done and blues and shades of red and pink and these colors help elicit an emotion. We follow Phoebe as she heads to an art collective for a summer workshop. Her best friend was just admitted to the hospital under suicide watch. ⬇

LibrarianRyan Phoebe spends her time at the art collective finding out who she is without her friend, and how she can be there, but give someone space at the same time. She also finds more of herself along the way. This book was beautiful. The story is one that I think many can see themselves in. It works well and should be on many shelves, both public and school libraries for years to come. 1y

This was such a delight to read but also full of so many raw emotions. While the initial focus is on suicide attempts and both the guilt we can feel for not spotting signs to anger towards the person in question, there's also a lot more happening, mainly, life continues and Jade, while trying to understand, also deals with finding her own art style and creating meaningful relationships at camp. Nothing ever exists in a bubble and we see it here
