A woman receives an unexpected visitor during a deadly snowstorm in this chilling thriller from New York Times bestselling author Heather Gudenkauf She thought she was alone... True crime writer Wylie Lark doesn't mind being snowed in at the isolated farmhouse where she's retreated to write her new book. A cozy fire, complete silence. It would be perfect, if not for the fact that decades earlier, at this very house, two people were murdered in cold blood and a girl disappeared without a trace. As the storm worsens, Wylie finds herself trapped inside the house, haunted by the secrets contained within its walls--haunted by secrets of her own. Then she discovers a small child in the snow just outside. After bringing the child inside for warmth and safety, she begins to search for answers. But soon it becomes clear that the farmhouse isn't as isolated as she thought, and someone is willing to do anything to find them.

Looking purely for entertainment? This novel delivers that page turner thrill, at least thru most of it. The last third gets drawn out & far fetched, but that seems to be par for the course in this genre. I didn‘t guess the whodunnit. 😃

Great for a distraction!

Cathythoughts Sounds good. I now have it on kindle 👍🏻😁 13mo

Second cataract surgery had to be rescheduled to the middle of next month.😫😫😫 Print reading isn‘t comfortable with vision that is totally opposite between the two eyes. On the upside my corrected eye is 20/20! Woot! 🎉

Thank the gods of technology for audio books! Started the tagged book last night and I‘m speeding right thru! I am enjoying the three distinct storylines and wondering where they‘ll intersect.

Aims42 Oh no!! What a pain, I‘m sorry 😔 So glad you can do audiobooks though, they are a true gift 👍 13mo
Cathythoughts Oh dear , what an ordeal you are going through! It will be worth it X This book sounds good. I think I‘ll invest 👍🏻❤️ 13mo
jlhammar Great news about your corrected eye! So sorry you have to wait longer for your second. Yay for audiobooks! 13mo

Ruthiella Glad the one eye is perfect vision! It‘s motivation waiting for the next eye to be done. Good luck and till then, happy listening. ❤️ (edited) 13mo
batsy Yay for the corrected eye, but sorry for the longer wait for the 2nd. Hope you find it enjoyable till the end; I breezed through this, too 😁 13mo
LeahBergen Oh, darn! That‘s too bad you have to wait longer. 🫤 13mo

Book 7

I listened to The Overnight Guest. Wylie, a true crime author, finds a child and, eventually, the child's mother outside during a snowstorm. Interwoven between this story is the narrative of a girl whose family was murdered while her best friend was sleeping over; her best friend has been missing since that night. Both stories are gripping and surprising. I will read more by the author.
