Today‘s Prompt: BREAK A LEG

HISTORICAL FICTION

From Vaudeville to nursing school and then back again.

Most of the book was about the dance marathons and prohibition.  I loved learning about the silver showers at the marathons and was a bit shocked how the dancers had to dance with only short breaks and no sleep. 4/5

Unread NetGalley ARC on my Kindle involves #Dancing
Set in Depression-era Galveston, Texas, the author was inspired by the painting shown & the dance marathons/contests that took place there.🕺🏻💃🏻

Eggs Looks inviting 🩷 8mo

Pickpick

I guess this is a pick? The first 2/3 of it definitely was. The last third, I'm not so sure. It was a bit of a mess. I was originally interested because it's set in Galveston and I did enjoy the setting and the world of vaudeville and dance marathons. Without spoiling anything, the story took a turn that was uncomfortable and ended up feeling historically inaccurate. This was my #bookspin for July.

What fun to learn about these dance marathons during the 1920s and 1930s.

Taking place during the Depression, Evie Grace, a young woman who has had a hard life under a selfish, domineering mother, sets out to earn her nurse‘s pin and her independence. Zave, a young man with troubles of his own, is a handsome, charismatic star of a traveling marathon dance show. As they meet by chance, they discover something in common and become dance partners and friends. ⬇️

robinb This is a bittersweet and heartfelt story of two struggling souls searching for love, belonging and acceptance for who they are in an often cold and despairing world. Very well-written, the horrors of the Depression become almost a character in themselves. And the supporting cast of misfits are interesting and compelling as well. Watching Evie‘s growth arc throughout is both inspiring and satisfying. Well done. 4.5/5⭐️ #coverlove 2y
