Jane Eyre is my favorite classic novel. So, I really connected with Zeni and her journey to piece together and connect the often erased and forgotten contribution that people of color have in history and literature. I think the author did an amazing job with the overall story and I was satisfied with the stories conclusion concerning the possible inspiration for the character of Bertha. Also, I loved Zeni and Lafe chemistry. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An Austen inspired novel complete with someone locked away. Liked the angle of looking for any contact or knowledge Austen had of people of color during her day. But, though the story was interesting enough to keep me reading, there was a need for more line editing. The story itself kind of went off the rails for a bit, but the resolution pulled it back together.
