This HF, I survived book the attacks of 9/11 is such a wonderful book. I love the I survived book series, but this book in specific hits home. The book shares a different perspective of a fictional character, but still keeps the truth of the real event. This book will be great for SR and IR. Teachers can read the first couple of pages and discuss as a class or students can read it on their own.

"I Survived the Attacks of September 11, 2001" (HF) by Lauren Tarshis is the 6th book in her I Survived series, which tell of important historical events from a fictional kid's perspective. Lucas is at an NYC fire station during 9/11, which changes everything. This is a good book to use for AS because Tarshis has such a successful book series as well as other works. A resource to use would be her website, www.laurentarshis.com . #lae3414sp19
This historical fiction (HF) would be a great IR and RA. Students that are interested in history would enjoy these books. This book could be utilized as a read aloud to inform the class about this period of time. I would use something like this in my classroom to give students factual information about this event.

Lucas heads to the twin towers with his father on September 11, 2011 where they go up to the 110th floor to see the view then

This chapter book is perfect for IR, because it teaches the student about a real event in history, using characters that they can relate to. This type of book may encourage students to look more into the history of 9/11 on their own outside of school.
A HF book by Lauren Tarshis about a boy named Chris Calley who takes a trip to see his uncle in New York City, when they see a jet crash into the World Trade Center. Chris tries to help his dad, who is a firefighter, to save injured citizens. This is a good book to bring up the discussion of the 9/11 attack, a permanent part of U.S history.
