La carrire littraire de la bonne dame de Shrewsbury, ne Edith Mary Pargeter (1913-1995), plus connue sous le nom d'Ellis Peters, fut d'une fcondit exceptionnelle. Celle que l'on dpeint au croisement d'Agatha Christie et d'Umberto Eco avait, sans le savoir, taill l'avance des croupires l'auteur du Nom de la rose avec sa trilogie consacre aux aventures d'Harry Talvace le Jeune. Elle-mme, malgr l'norme succs de frre Cadfael, voyait dans cette Pierre de vie et ses suites les meilleurs livres qu'elle ait crits. Et de fait cette superbe fresque historique, la fois roman d'amour et d'aventures au temps des btisseurs de cathdrales, laisse entrevoir, fut-ce sans pisode criminel, mais avec un sens vident du suspense, ce qui servira de toile de fond frre Cadfael : le Moyen Age dans ses splendeurs et sa cruaut.

Day 15 of #20Series20Days and my pick is this wonderful trilogy set in 13th-century England and Wales.

The author (who also wrote the Brother Cadfael series) considered this her finest work.

Book 1 of The Heaven Tree trilogy is a good one. Took me a little bit to get into, but by the end I was openly wiping away tears while reading this in public. Recommended if you liked the Brothers of Gwynedd quartet especially.

Packing for a visit to my parents and making note of all the books I want to borrow. One is The Heaven Tree, which we decide would stay with my parents because they are collecting the Pargeters.

Then I open my suitcase, which is also where I stash books I've borrowed and read so I can return them on my next visit.

And there's The Heaven Tree! I hadn't brought it back yet to borrow in the first place 🙄

Welsh book haul part 4, Hay-on-Wye book haul part 2. Bought at Murder and Mayhem, Addyman Books, Hay-on-Wye Booksellers, and Addyman Annexe. The Doctor Who novel with the faded spine is Doctor Who and the Ribos Operation.

#TBT This is an oldie and a goodie set in 13th century England (and Paris). I read the trilogy years ago and still vividly remember certain bits.
