“Now you even see the drops in the water…”. I like how McCloskey keeps saying “you” to remind students that this is their experience. There are many moments where he tells the reader to breathe. It‘s very refreshing.

The second person perspective in this book is so fascinating to me. I‘ve never read a book like it. I would read this to my students and tell them to close their eyes and imagine this story, rather than watching the pictures.

Award: Caldecott
Review: This book is about a summer trip to an island. The author uses the second person to make you picture yourself on this vacation. This book chronicles the adventures of exploring the shoreside, riding in boats, playing in the water, and exploring the island. Eventually, the book ends with you going home.

Time of Wonder is a RF picture book by Robert McCloskey. It won a caldecott for for the beautiful pictures inside. What I love about this book is the way each page reads like really smooth poetry. The descriptive writing is beautiful and beneficial not only for younger students, but for grades 4+ as well. This book could be used in IR or PR to coincide with this lesson plan: https://www.cpalms.org/Public/PreviewResourceUrl/Preview/25646

ebrown This lesson plan is about how the setting of a story impacts the plot. The setting plays a huge role in this story, and dictates the plot greatly. My UDL strategy Providing options for comprehension, in which I will highlight patterns and relationships within the text. This lesson could be modified for ESOL students with the “use student pairs for team learning” (#32) ESOL inclusion strategy. #ucflae3414f19 5y
DrSpalding Lovely post that follows the rubric well. Make sure you continue to use the rubric throughout your posts! Any activities that highlight the narrative elements of story are beneficial to students. 4y

“A little bit sad about the place you are leaving, a little bit glad about the place you are going. It is a time of quiet wonder- for wondering, for instance: Where do hummingbirds go during a hurricane?”

During this book when McCloskey was talking about all the sensory things you will experience on the island such as the rain pouring on you, the birds chirping, the sun on your face, it was all so calming and relaxing

“ out on the island that poke their rocky shores above the waters of Penobscot Bay, you can watch the time of the world go by, from minute to minute, hour to hour, from day to day, season to season”

Talks about a bay where you can watch the time of the world go by. It talks about all that you can do at the bay and all the adventures you can have. It also mentions all of the sound you hear when you think you are alone but you‘re not.
