I enjoyed this, but it wasn‘t quite the survival in the wild story I was expecting. It spends a lot of time on rivalry & friendship between the characters. Then, instead of detailing how the kids learn to use natural resources to survive in the wilderness, it focuses on them facing one dangerous event after another while eating emergency rations. Overall, it‘s a fast paced adventure with some violence & death.

This book I‘m reading during independent reading time with my students is one of those that‘s hard to put down when the bell rings.

Five middle school students end up in survival mode in the Montana wilderness when a dam break and flash flood wipe out their campsite on a white water rafting trip.

What a fun adventure! Daniel and his friends must survive the Crazy River after a dam fails and their whitewater trip turns deadly. Learning to make friends and work together is challenging in the best circumstances, let alone when you‘re fighting for your life. I was happy to see growth in several characters. As always, Philbrick keeps you on the edge of your seat and turning pages!

This middle grade adventure is perfect for young readers who like survival stories with a hefty dose of danger. This one reminded me of Hatchet but Hatchet dialed up 100%. A group of students are a day into a white water rafting trip when disaster strikes and a dam breaks sending water surging down the river. In the middle of nowhere and fighting for their lives, the students will have to work together if they are to survive. On sale 3/2/21.
