Yuge!
Yuge!: 30 Years of Doonesbury on Trump | G. B. Trudeau
12 posts | 8 read | 2 to read
He tried to warn us. Ever since the release of the first Trump-for-President trial balloon in 1987, Doonesburys Garry Trudeau has tirelessly tracked and highlighted the unsavory career of the most unqualified candidate to ever aspire to the White House. Its all there--the hilarious narcissism, the schoolyard bullying, the loathsome misogyny, the breathtaking ignorance; and a good portion of the Doonesbury cast has been tangled up in it. Join Duke, Honey, Earl, J.J., Mike, Mark, Roland, Boopsie, B.D., Sal, Alice, Elmont, Sid, Zonker, Sam, Bernie, Rev. Sloan, and even the Red Rascal as they cross storylines with the big, orange airhorn whos giving the GOP such fits. Garry Trudeau is the sleazeball third-rate talent who draws the overrated comic strip Doonesbury, which very few people read. He lives in New York City with his wife Jane Pauley, who has far more talent than he has."

Bailedbailed

I had to bail... I made it through the 80‘s and 90‘s and was just too disheartened to continue reading this. I thought it would be a great way to laugh at the absurdity of it all, but instead I was reminded of just how long we‘ve know what kind of person he was and still people voted for him. 🙄

BarbaraTheBibliophage Good on you for trying, but I‘m not surprised it was awful. (edited) 6y
UrsulaMonarch Makes sense! 6y
Gezemice I have Trump overload. I refuse to read anything about him. He is the kind of person who is not worth my time. I wish we would not be forced to pay attention to him daily. Also, you know what would piss him off the most? If everyone would just ignore him. So I am doing it for both my piece of mind and as a revenge. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Gezemice That sounds like a great plan! 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Gezemice I just wish he wasn‘t, you know, in charge, because now I feel like I have to pay attention. ☹️ 6y
Gezemice @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Exactly. And he is not even in charge. He flails about, doing damage, and no one can contain him because he is president. It feels like he is Nero. What does he need to do for people to wake up? Burn Rome, eh, Washington? 6y

Up next for me! I found it on Hoopla and I needed to laugh at the absurdity of it all tonight, fingers crossed this will do the trick! 🙄

Quick read. I am not a frequent comic reader nor do I read graphic novels. Some parts were interesting and towards the end, I felt anxiety but that has less to do with Trudeau's depiction and more with politics today. As Trump was a 'brand' far before I was interested in politics/alive, I related mostly to the comics in the 2000s and 2010s. It wasn't a fun read, but it was neat to see earlier depictions of Trump in relation to present events.

I liked it so-so. Especially the older stuff (1980s/ 1990s) was difficult for me, because I was missing the cultural background for them. The rest was very much on point... scary on point actually. I just wish that people would wait until after the election to publish these books. It cut off in April of 2016 and I would have loved to see it up to the election, but I guess the authors have to strike the iron while it's hot - that's understandable.

#signedsundays I've been a Doonesbury fan for a very long time and was excited to get this in the mail this week! I ordered it from a book signing event at the Politics and Prose bookstore in Washington DC. Yuge indeed!
