Maw Broon's Cookbook
Maw Broon's Cookbook | Waverley Books
1 post | 1 to read
Launched in 1936 in the "Sunday Post" in Scotland, The Broons are undoubtedly Scotland's first family - the Nation's favourites - with a readership covering various generations. This title is a facsimile of Maw Broon's very own cookbook.

This is fun. It‘s a ‘facsimile‘ cookbook, complete with doodles, notes & sarcy comments, & a whole bunch of traditional(ish) Scottish recipes.

In shock news, today I actually made the breakfast baps from it, along with Delia‘s leek & potato soup. In more shock news, I‘d do both again!

Tagging @tpixie as this falls under the long-neglected #neglectedcookbooks tag - not sure I‘ll manage a new recipe a month, but I‘m going to give it another try 😋

tpixie @rockpools Congrats on your find and your new recipes!! Thanks so much for the tag!!! 💗💗💗 Yes, I need to work on new recipes, also! Potato leek soup sounds really good! The temperature dropped 30 degrees today!! (edited) 4y

LeahBergen Oh , this sounds fabulous. Stacked! 4y
MsMelissa Does it have a recipe for Scotch Broth soup? It‘s my favourite soup 🥣 4y
rabbitprincess My mum needs this book! We have a lot of Broons and Oor Wullie collections at home 😊 4y
rockpools @tpixie Wow! It seems to have turned to Autumn really quickly here too. Have had to turn the heating on and everything. Brrr! 4y
rockpools @Pageturner1 Aw, thanks! A bap is a type of bread roll - not entirely sure mine were as they should be. I‘ve always thought of them as soft and flat, but mine came out quite crispy. Edible though 😂😂 (I‘m not the world‘s best cook - I have pretty low expectations!!) 4y
rockpools @Crinoline_Laphroaig My gran used to have The Country Diary - I loved poring over it when I was little. So pretty! I think this is compiled from a long-running newspaper column/something rather than being a genuine ‘found‘ cookbook - but it‘s still lots of fun & real recipes @LeahBergen 4y
rockpools @rabbitprincess Is your family Scottish? I hadn‘t come across the Broons before. Oor Wullie is very familiar though... 4y
rockpools @Book_Fiend_Melissa I‘ll have a look! 4y
Cathythoughts Beautiful post ... dusting sugar 😋 4y
ConfessionofaBookaholic Love this! I just moved to Scotland and I‘ve been looking for traditional Scottish cooking books 🤗 4y
rabbitprincess @rockpools My great-grandmother was from Glasgow, which is about as close as I get! We don't have any close family there anymore though; it would all be like third cousins twice removed at this point 4y
