Boarding the Enterprise
Boarding the Enterprise: Transporters,Tribbles, And the Vulcan Death Grip in Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek | Robert J. Sawyer, David Gerrold
2 posts | 2 read | 8 to read
With a new introduction from David Gerrold and afterword from Robert Sawyer for Star Trek: The Original Series' 50th anniversary. Trekkies and Trekkers alike will get starry-eyed over this eclectic mix of essays on the groundbreaking original Star Trek, one of the most culturally impactful science fiction series of the last 50 years. Star Trek writers D. C. Fontana and David Gerrold, science fiction authors such as Howard Weinstein, and various academics share behind-the-scenes anecdotes, discuss the shows enduring appeal and influence, and examine some of the classic features of the show, including Spocks irrationality, Scottys pessimism, and the lack of seatbelts on the Enterprise. The impact of the cultural phenomenon on subsequent science-fiction television programs is explored, as well as how the show laid the foundation for the science fiction genre to break into the television medium.

I am so far behind on reviews because of the readathon and all the fun I have been having looking at everyone's posts! Anyhow if you are a die hard Trekkie you will love this collection of extremely intelligent and insightful essays reflecting on the 50 years of this ground breaking TV show.

Eyelit My mum is a longtime Trekkie and I know she'd love this. Thanks for the review! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage We saw the new Star Trek movie today and really enjoyed it! 8y

callunakeep OMG! @Sara_Planz I think we must be related! 😝 I thought only my family blatantly decorated our houses with our fandoms! @DiruVamp Look, it's our long lost sister! LMAO 😜🤓🎉 8y
Sara_Planz @callunakeep my husband and I each have a room for our fandoms. His office houses all of his Lego pieces (although some of them have found their way into my room) and the living room houses my book world. All's fair right? Lol 8y
DiruVamp @callunakeep LOVE!!! We are not alone! 8y
NatalieR @Sara_Planz yup! I think there is a picture (maybe partial?) in my @Litsy posts. It's really my hubby's collection, I arrange the display. He also has Poe stories tattooed on his arms (full sleeves). 8y
Sara_Planz @NatalieR My son, who is in the Navy has so many tattoos so I am going to get my first one, Poe's signature. 8y
NatalieR Awesome! My hubby has Poe's signature too! A raven was his first. 8y
