3.5⭐️ The book definitely scratched my BRF* itch. Ironically I was reading the book when the news came out on the Duke‘s passing on Friday; it also made me want to rewatch “Wolverton Splash” & pointed out a major inaccuracy in the episode (the Duke‘s mom didn‘t wear her nun‘s habit to the wedding). This was fun. I really enjoyed the first half, after watching The Crown it really scratched an itch to be back in their world again. I liked reading about Philip‘s family and childhood but about halfway it sagged for me and started to feel monotonous. Still a good read tho. 👍

GingerAntics @Caroline2 I know. He certainly never shows it. It seemed he couldn‘t catch a break for much of his childhood. The most intriguing part is that if anyone ever says anything about how he‘s survived all that heart break or instability, he just shrugs and says “I just got on with it.” He‘s not impressed by it at all, it seems. It just was what it was and he‘s given him own children more stability, which he doesn‘t find impressive or worthy of comment 3y

Caroline2 @Crazeedi it‘s crazy isn‘t it. Then the book arrives and I‘m all excited, till I try and fit in on my tbr shelves and look at all the books I need to read then I start feeling a bit panicky. Arghhh! 🤦‍♀️ why do I do this to myself. 😆 3y

Crazeedi @Caroline2 my books are now oiling up in front of my biggest bookshelf, I have 1 wall to wall one, and 4 smaller ones. I also have 2 stacks in a corner that need donated. And I really need to go through my shelves and downsize 3y

so-so

This book was enjoyable enough to read but unfortunately I found it to be under written...almost like its a YA noel.
It doesn't start where Phillip and Elizabeth meet, and it ends right before the wedding ceremony...
We read about their 7 year long 'relationship' where Elizabeth has decided she wants Phillip and that is that, she finds ways to be with him.
Phillip comes across as if he just wants to marry Elizabeth to better his finances.
