2 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
A magical novel that unravels one of lifes greatest mysterieshow to go on after a devastating lossthrough the power of words and their ability to heal, to transform, and to touch the heart. Luck: an event that could be for good or ill, depending on your interpretation. As a lexicographer, Abigail Harker has always taken refuge in the meaning of words. But when fate erases in one tragic moment what she loves the most, the very foundations of her life vanish. Abigail retreats to Chapel Isle, a secluded island in North Carolinas Outer Banks. As caretaker of a run-down lighthouse, she hopes to redefine herself. But as a resident soon remarks, If you came to Chapel Isle for normal, you came to the wrong place. For on Chapel Isle, no one can be neatly defined. From a scientific genius to the feuding fishermens wives, from a handsome hothead to the ghost said to be haunting the lighthouse, everyone is struggling to find meaning where meaning seems lost. And when a series of mysterious crimes strikes the island, Abigail finds that she must face down her deepest fears if she is to save herself, her neighbors, and the new life shes unexpectedly come to cherish. From the Trade Paperback edition.

I love #lighthouses! Since I don't have the tagged book (it was a library read), here's the Lighthouse in St. Joesph, Michigan, which is about an hour away from me. Pics from google, I don't get up there much. #MarchIntoReading

MyNamesParadise Holy smokes! I want to see it!! 7y

CocoReads @MyNamesParadise It's definitely more hospitable in the summer. 😄 but it's a thing of beauty no matter what season. 7y

MyNamesParadise @CocoReads I love winter and snow and cold weather. I've been disappointed wth the extremely mild winter in the mid Atlantic!! 7y
CocoReads We've had a fairly mild winter ourselves--I think the ice pics are actually from a year or two ago when it was super nasty. Although December here was pretty cold so they could be from then. 7y

Wife I'm in St. Clair Shores. About three hours away from St. Joseph. It's my favorite beach and I visit about 4-5 times in the Summer. I've walked out to the lighthouse. It looks awesome all frozen over! 7y
CocoReads @wife, I'm south in South Bend, IN. My favorite beach is Weco in Bridgeman. I'm a big fan of Lake Michigan and the whole shoreline. (edited) 7y
Wife I'm going to look up that beach and give it a try this Summer. Thanks for the tip. 🏖Is it MI or IN? 7y
CocoReads @wife. Weco is in MI, it might be spelled with a k now that I think about it. It's actually a city park, and I'm thinking about 20-30 minutes south of St Joe depending on traffic. I try to go on Mondays during the summer, as that's my day off. 7y
CocoReads It's a very family oriented beach, and was the one I grew up going to. 7y
Wife Sounds good. Thanks. 7y

Didn't meet the #Olympicbookchallenge, but enjoyed trying! Read 3 & 1/2 books in that time, in between beaching & hiking on Cape Cod. And buying books of course! Pix of bookstore we visited on Nantucket. We all three found at least one book! @TheSpinecrackersBookClub

MrBook No matter how far short you end up, you are still farther than you were at the beginning. 😎👍🏻👏🏻 8y
