Pura Belpré Award

Description: This story follows Little Lobo and his side kick Bernabé as they work for their delivery business. They get an urgent message from their favorite wrestler, El Toro. The wrestlers are very hungry as they train for a big show, and Lobo knows all the best food trucks in town! Little Lobo, Bernabé, and their rooster friend Kooky Dooky go on an adventure to help the wrestlers satisfy their hunger!

clairebourq_2023 Why I like: This is a great mix of English, Spanish, and Spanglish to introduce to our children in the classroom. We are able to look at different culture and their food through this fun adventure of illustration.

This busy book is all about the traditions that surround the food truck experience. the main character, Little Lono, is cheerfully energetic and his role is a bike counter. The story follows Little Lobo and his dog and rooster as they pick up a variety of food from the food trucks to deliver. The story is all about Mexican food and the traditions that come with it.

Didn‘t really like this as much as I hoped. Little Lobo needs to gather foods from the food trucks and deliver to the luchadores before their big match. Love that it is bilingual, and that there is at least a partial glossary in the back. But overall it‘s really a very busy book with crowded illustrations that was distracting to me. #bbrc #picturebook:V #bookspinbingo #bingo

I love how this book presents vocabulary. I don't like how it makes me hungry, especially because I'm allergic to peppers. It's a gazing book in a comic style so more of an independent read than a read aloud. I read it #outloud to the kids here and they liked it. Words you don't know are supported in the illustrations or explained in the glossary. #Español

I love this book because it is so culturally diverse and contains both Spanish and English inside. But not only that, it is a Pura Belpré Award winner! This MF-LC book is great for LC because you can group the students in groups of English and Spanish speaking students and they can all help each other fully understand the book with group discussions! UDL principle 2.4 is used promoting understanding across languages #UCFLAE3414SP21

Spearsall continued: as well as ESOL strategy using direct instruction: modeling, explaining, scaffolding, name the strategy and show how to use it. https://forum.teachingbooks.net/2020/05/raul-the-third-on-vamos-lets-go-eat/ Check out this link if this book interests you ðŸðŸ‹ðŸ“🥭🧀ðŸ…🧅🥩 3y

KeanaE Your reassure was so informative I cannot wait to use this in my classroom! Great UDL and EL strategies 3y
DrSpalding Many of your class members utilized the time I provided in the CMC wisely. You certainly did! This is a current award winner that should be considered for your classroom library. You will have Spanish-speaking students in your future classrooms and they need to have books like these available to them. 3y

My last #bbrc today! This one is ¡Vamos! Let‘s Go Eat! This one would be fun to read to kiddos BUT it would require pre-reading from non-Spanish speaking parents. There‘s a helpful glossary in the back, that will really help you in the inevitable “what does that mean?†throughout the book. I found the illustrations super crowded, as well, but still a fun read!
