The Mirror Man
The Mirror Man: A Novel | Jane Gilmartin
3 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
Meet Jeremiah Adams. There are two of him. The offer is too tempting: be part of a scientific breakthrough, step out of his life for a year, and be paid hugely for it. When ViMed Pharmaceutical asks Jeremiah to be part of an illegal cloning experiment, he sees it as a break from an existence he feels disconnected from. No one will know he’s been replaced—not the son who ignores him, not his increasingly distant wife—since a revolutionary drug called Meld can transfer his consciousness and memories to his copy. From a luxurious apartment, he watches the clone navigate his day-to-day life. But soon Jeremiah discovers that examining himself from an outsider’s perspective isn’t what he thought it would be, and he watches in horror as “his” life spirals out of control. ViMed needs the experiment to succeed—they won’t call it off, and are prepared to remove any obstacle. With his family in danger, Jeremiah needs to finally find the courage to face himself head-on.

I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.
Join the fun if you want. This is day 161.

Pickpick

I loved it! Intriguing…suspenseful. Even the slow moments held my attention.

Jeremiah must allow his clone to replace him for a year. No one can know about the clone. He can have no contact with his wife & son for a year. But in the end, he receives $10M. Quite the deal!

It sets off a series of ethical dilemmas for him. What makes one human? Quite the philosophical question, especially as today‘s scientists continue to experiment with cloning.

Mehso-so

I had high hopes for this book, but I found it just okay. The concept was good, it had character development, but the ending was Soo Predictable. I was hoping for a more Climatic Ending. I don't know how she could have changed the ending, I just wish it wasn't so predictable.
