The Companion | Katie Alender

The other orphans say Margot is lucky. Lucky to survive the horrible accident that killed her family. Lucky to have her own room because she wakes up screaming every night. And finally, lucky to be chosen by a prestigious family to live at their remote country estate. But it wasn't luck that made the Suttons rescue Margot from her bleak existence at the group home. Margot was handpicked to be a companion to their silent, mysterious daughter, Agatha. At first, helping with Agatha--and getting to know her handsome older brother--seems much better than the group home. But soon, the isolated, gothic house begins playing tricks on Margots mind, making her question everything she believes about the Suttons . . . and herself. Margots bad dreams may have stopped when she came to live with Agatha but the real nightmare has just begun.

If you're triggered by gaslighting or medical related trauma, skip The Companion. It's well written and that's what makes it so scary. Honestly, this might be the scariest book I've ever read because it's so realistic. It could happen and probably has happened too many times to count. I do think this is an important book for teens to read because it shows blatant gaslighting in action, we can all do to understand that better.

Girl do NOT sit on your bed with that boy when you KNOW the family believes women are inherently wild and want to corrupt men, do you want to be sent to a convent? Or worse? #thecompanion #halloweenreads

Margot is 16 when her whole family dies and has to go into foster care. After hearing the news of her father's death, a very wealthy classmate and his wife bring her to their enormous estate in the country to live with them. Initially, all they ask is that she keeps their catatonic 17 year old daughter company. Ominous from page one, the suspense builds as she uncovers secrets she shouldn't during her transition from "rags to riches".

Haymitch is my (reading) companion tonight. Just started this one and I'm digging its creepily ominous vibe. My daughter picked this one out for my bday last month. She's not much into reading for entertainment but is great at finding books that I enjoy. 💗💕💖

Margot survives a crash that kills her entire family, leaving her a penniless orphan. When the wealthy Sutton family take her in, she‘s grateful… but there are strings attached. The mansion is isolated and Margot is made a companion to the beautiful but silent Agatha Sutton. As Margot wonders the closed off wings, secrets slowly expose themselves. A hidden key, a secret graveyard, a disturbing journal. A delightfully creepy and modern gothic tale!

Cathythoughts Sounds good ! Nice review 💫 4y
