Repetition and rhythm are used to nice effect in the lullaby poem that is the text in this bedtime #picturebook. The artwork depicts a northern community with windows glowing upon a dark winter night. Published by Inhabit Media, Iqualuit, this is a rare portrayal of children in Nunavut, a vast northern #Canadian territory where Inuktitut is the working language. Neither of the creators, Laura Deal & Tamara Campeau, are Indigenous, btw. #kidlit

I like how this picture book captures the modern realities of Inuit people. There are incongruous juxtapositions, however. In the above example, “Silently, a hunter returns from the land” —on a snowmobile, which is typical for today‘s hunters, but NOT a silent way to travel.
