#Eisner award nominee. This book chronicals the awkward and embarrassing moments in the author's career and life in general. It offers an interesting insight into the comic world, but, while it ties together nicely and sweetly in the end, it was quite a downer. There is little to no focus on any thing positive, so it portrays the title well. I just don't see it as something you'd want to buy and revisit often.

Pickpick

If you enjoy self-deprecating humour & vulnerability, check out this memoir by Adrian Tomine, a superb & socially awkward Japanese American cartoonist. Told in vignettes that start in 1982, when he was a new kid at elementary school and told his classmates he wanted to grow up to be a famous cartoonist, & end in 2018 when he was so worried about his health that he envisioned his two daughters growing up without a father. #graphicnonfiction #comics

Ha! I‘m sure all authors dread these kinds of “questions” from the audience.

Bits 😆 3y

[At a book signing gig]
Tomine: What the hell is that?
Comics store owner: “Oh! That‘s a poster for the new Sin City book! Frank signed it when he was here a few months ago!
Seth: Perfect placement, too. Right above your seat.
Tomine: Unbelievable.

Can‘t remember where I saw the recommendation for this #graphicnovel but it finally came through at the library! A quick read of self-deprecating humor in the form of mini short stories.
