In a house on a suburban street in Nagasaki, meteorologist Shimura Kobo lives quietly on his own. Or so he believes. Food begins to go missing. Perturbed by this threat to His orderly life, Shimura sets up a webcam to monitor his home. But though eager to identify his intruder, is Shimura really prepared for what the camera will reveal? This prize-winning novel is a heart-rending tale of alienation in the modern world.

Pickpick

In this novella, based on a true story, ร‰ric Faye recounts beautifully and poetically how the main character, a single man in his fifties, discovered a woman was using his place when he was absent...
The themes of solitude, intrusion, and meaning of life are very well explored despite the brievety of the book.

#31bookpics | Day 18

Meh. I thought this very short read was going to be more #ThoughtProvoking than it turned out to be. I'm not exactly sure what the author's intention was... I enjoyed the double perspective but this didn't do it for me.

Okay I'm jumping in to #31bookpics by @howjessreads! I hope I can be as consistent as I was in September ๐Ÿ’ช
This is the book I'm most recently #currentlyreading. Published as 'Nagasaki' in English, this French novel set in Japan tells the story of a man who finds his quiet household and simple life disrupted by small amounts of food disappearing and decides to video monitor his home... I don't know what he's going to find...

Pickpick

I visited Nagasaki in 2005 and am drawn to any books I can find about this city. This pic shows the book with some of my photos from a memorial to those killed by the atomic bomb.

Nagasaki is about being on the edge of society. I wasn't sure how to rate this book. It wasn't long enough and was so understated that it was easy to miss the depth of the story. I have continued to think about it and pick through its meaning so it deserves a Pick.

Laura317 I'll have to add that to my stack, since my hometown had a hand in making the bombs that were dropped. Oak Ridge now has a Friendship Bell. If you care to read more : http://www.oakridger.com/article/20080708/NEWS/307089975 9y

This photo has NOTHING to do with this book, but it does show the reason why I haven't yet finished this book today. The book is just across the room... But with Lola cat on my lap it's like it's a million miles away.
