Hawke | Ted Bell
3 posts | 3 read | 13 to read
While sailing in the Caribbean, young Alex Hawke witnesses an act of unspeakable horror as modern-day pirates brutally murder his parents. It is a tragedy that will haunt him forever and shape his destiny. As a direct descendant of a legandary English pirate, Lord Alexander Hawke is skilled in the ways of sea combat - and one of Britain's most decorated naval heroes. Now, Hawke returns to the Caribbean on a secret mission for the American government. A highly experimental stealth submarine is missing. She carries forty nuclear warheads, and is believed to be in the hands of an unstable government just ninety miles from the US mainland. In a race against time, Hawke must locate the sub before a strike can be launched against the US - and, after a lifetime of nightmares, finally avenge himself on the mean who slaughtered his family . . .

Pickpick

Lord Alexander Hawke is part James Bond, part Tony Stark, & full-on UK naval hero. He's rich, handsome, smart, suave, chic, & tough to take down. Hawke & co.'s assignment: prevent a Caribbean regime from taking & aiming a sub's nukes at the US. It's jolly good fun & excitement packaged as a fast-paced thrill ride. You'll love his talkative parrot too. #PairWith: a martini: 3 pts gin, 1 pt vodka, .5 pt White Lillet, lemon peel, chilled, stirred.

Cortg This is the best "book talk" I've read on Litsy...I will HAVE to read this book, how fun! 8y
GinaAnderson Sounds like fun. And Lillet in the martini is genius. 8y
MrBook @Cortg Thank you 😁👍🏻!!! I hope you enjoy it. It's the first in a series. 8y

MrBook @GinaAnderson I found it rollicking ?. I can't take the credit for the martini, I'll pass the compliment along to a former colleague who intro'd me to the "Martini 007" ???! 8y
ApoptyGina69 My current favorite gin drink is equal parts Bombay Sapphire and St. Germaine elderflower liquer; shaken, served up with a nice squeeze of lime. Extremely quaffable! I have been meaning to add Lillet to the liquor cabinet, so thanks again you crazy kids! 🍸 8y
LauraJ Hey, that glass is empty! 8y
becausetrains @MrBook I get the impression you'd love Clive Cussler books. Very similar kind of protagonist, always saving the world from one villain or another 🙃 8y
Tav Hawke's a rum drinker... Because of his Bermuda home. I have read Bell's most recent Hawke's novels. Their greatest strength in my mind is the humor brought to the drama. 8y
MrBook @ApoptyGina69 😂😂😂👏🏻👍🏻! I haven't had your drink. I'm adding it to my list 😊👍🏻. @LauraJ 😆😁😎👍🏻! @Tav 😁👏🏻👍🏻! That seems to be Bell's one major fault is making Hawke a rum drinker. Rum can be made a sophisticated drink of the wealthy for sure, but a martini is just falls in line so much easier 😂. You and I both find the humor to be a strong suit 😎👍🏻👌🏻! 8y
Tav I agree that the martini is more in line with Hawke's character but I bet Bell was like, "erm, Hawke's has to have one quality that sets him apart from Bond... Hm, rum it is!" @MrBook 8y
MrBook @Tav 😆👏🏻👍🏻👌🏻😎 8y
Awk_Word_Smith I read that as: "3 pints gin, 1 pint vodka, .5 pints White Lillet". #ImmaLush 8y
MrBook @Vinyl_45rpm 😂😂😂😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😂😂😂😂......😂😂😂😂👍🏻🙌🏻!!! You'll be drinking that for awhile then! 😂😂😂😂😎👍🏻 8y
