They have a charmed life together, despite the cruel whispers about her humble past and his first marriage. But everything starts to unravel when she discovers a young womans body floating in the exact same spot where Pauls first wife tragically drowned. At first, it seems like a horrific coincidence, but the stranger in the lake is no stranger. Charlotte saw Paul talking to her the day before, even though Paul tells the police hes never met the woman. His lie exposes cracks in their fragile new marriage, cracks Charlotte is determined to keep from breaking them in two. As Charlotte uncovers dark mysteries about the man she married, she doesnt know what to trusther heart, which knows Paul to be a good man, or her growing suspicion that theres something hes hiding in the water.

I am officially a Kimberly Belle fan..Charlotte, fresh out of the trailer park, marries rich Paul who owns a beautiful home on Lake Crosby where his wife drowned 4 years prior. Suddenly another body washes up under Paul‘s dock that unearths some long buried secrets. I really enjoyed this story and how it fell together. I loved the atmosphere and the setting as I vacation in WNC every year. Definitely a good solid thriller!

Very solid mystery, I thought I had it figured out a couple times so I was even more impressed when it came together.

The MC drove me a little nuts at the beginning but I can‘t blame her. A young woman from the trailer park marries a rich widower, already the talk of the town. she finds the body of a woman who died similarly to the man‘s 1st wife. on his property. He takes off and leaves her to cover for him. I probably wouldn‘t do a good job 😂

After a whirlwind romance, Charlotte marries wealthy Paul in small town, western North Carolina. But then a woman is found dead under their dock, mirroring the death of Paul‘s first wife in the same lake. This is an enjoyable thriller and I didn‘t guess the ending, which was nice.

My second Belle book. Suspenseful first chapter, draws you in right away. Little bit of a complicated ending but still glad I read it. Loved the last sentence❤️ Would read another of hers.

Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. Happily married to architect Paul, living in a gorgeous home overlooking a lake, an idyllic life, but then the body of a woman Charlotte has seen her husband with is found in the lake near their dock. Her husband denies knowing the woman. Another great read from Kimberly Belle, this book had my interest captivated from the start, with unexpected twists.

I had a difficult time getting into this one as the narrative, in the beginning, was drawn. Once the story started moving, it got better although I figured out what who the murderer was about halfway through and accurately anticipated some of the plot twists.

I would have loved to see the characters more developed.

It isn‘t a bad book; it just left me wanting more from it. Her last book, “Dear Wife”, set a really high bar.

https://www.bluestockingreviews.com/post/stranger-in-the-lake STRANGER IN THE LAKE is a clever and consuming tension-filled mystery. The story is smartly structured, weaving together the events from twenty years ago and the present day mystery. The writing deftly peels away layer after layer through the wrenching backstory.

I like Belle‘s books & her latest mystery holds some surprises (though there are some parts that may be a bit more expected). Set on a fictional lake in North Carolina, main narrator Charlotte has come a long way from her trailer park beginnings & is now married to one of the town‘s wealthiest men. Though much her senior, Charlotte doesn‘t really start asking questions until a body washes ashore at their back door. A quick & fun read!! #NetGalley
