Vicar Max Tudor, reveling in his new-found personal happiness with Awena Owen, feels that life at the moment holds no greater challenge than writing his Easter sermon. With Awena away, he looks forward to a dinner that welcomes newcomers to the village, including West End dramatist Thaddeus Bottle and his mousey wife Melinda. But when one of the dinner guests is found dead in the wee small hours, Max knows a poisonous atmosphere has once again enveloped his perfect village of Nether Monkslip. Connections to long-ago crimes, some sparked by the paintings of a famous local artist, help Max unravel the clues - but will he be too late to restore lasting peace to Nether Monkslip? Praise for G M Malliet: 'Rarely have I read descriptions that have left me gasping, in both their hilarity and their painful truth.' Louise Penny 'G M Malliet has brought the village cosy into the twenty first century... Wicked Autumn is a refreshing read for everyone who loves a really good murder.' Charles Todd 'There are certain things you want in a village mystery: a pretty setting, a tasteful murder, an appealing sleuth... Malliet delivers all that.' New York Times Book Review

Finished this one yesterday but forgot to post. This is the 3rd in the Max Tudor series. This one wasn‘t my favorite. I felt like it was missing something. The mystery and reasons for the killing were definitely unique and interesting but the rest of the story was a bit mundane. I don‘t know if it‘s because Max was whining over missing his girlfriend or what. I just didn‘t care for this one.

Her best writing so far. Father Max seeks the truth when a self-absorbed actor is mysteriously murdered.

#24in48 has begun and I am one hour away from finishing this audiobook. My goal is to finish the 4 books I started in January- very doable as I am well in to all of them- helps that it is in the 30‘s today! Happy reading all!🥳📚

And now for some #solstice action for today's #riotgrams. I love the Max Tudor series. So much fun with the dichotomy with Max and the church and Awena and nature and paganism.

Jess_Read_This I am not familiar with this series at all... but that cover is lovely. I am going to have to check this out! 7y
Verity They're good fun @Jess_Read_This if a bit patchy. Ex-spy turned vicar solves crimes and falls in love with an earth mother. Good cozy-ing! 7y
Jess_Read_This @Verity 😂Omigosh! I love that premise! 7y
Verity @Jess_Read_This I know, right?! They're much less wacko than that sounds but a lot of fun at the same time. 7y

Still avoiding dystopian futures and misery. Taking a break from romance with some cozy crime and another Max Tudor mystery. Having done some church bell ringing earlier, a mystery with a vicar doing the detecting seemed apt!
