The Dragon in the Sea
The Dragon in the Sea | Frank Herbert
4 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
In the endless war between East and West, oil has become the ultimate prize. Nuclear-powered subtugs brave enemy waters to tap into hidden oil reserves beneath the East's continental shelf. But the last twenty missions have never returned. Have sleeper agents infiltrated the elite submarine service, or are the crews simply cracking under the pressure? Psychologist John Ramsay has gone undercover aboard a Hell Diver subtug. His mission is to covertly observe the remainder of the four-man crewand find the traitor among them. Sabotage and suspicion soon plague the mission, as Ramsay discovers that the stress of fighting a war a mile and a half under the ocean exposes every weakness in a man. Hunted relentlessly by the enemy, the four men find themselves isolated in a claustrophobic undersea prison, struggling for survival against the elements . . . and themselves. A gripping novel by the legendary author of Dune.

Pickpick

I had trouble getting into this & almost bailed 25-30 pages in, but soon after, things picked up & I was hooked. I admit there's some submarine techy talk that went over my head but I looked past that because the psychological angle was so interesting. Trying to figure out who the spy was kept me guessing, but I was pretty sure who it was before the reveal. Overall an entertaining read. If there had been a sequel, I'd read it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #LitsyAtoZ #U

I'm currently on letter U for #LitsyAtoZ. #NextUp will be one of the other books pictured. When I made my list, I was overly optimistic: only two of the remaining books are stand-alones. The rest of them are belong to different series: Ender's Saga 3 - I haven't read book 2 yet. The Dreamers 1 & 4 - meaning I need to read the whole series. Cainsville 2 - Who am I kidding? Once I start a Kelley Armstrong series, I have to binge! #FallIntoBooks

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Luckily the whole Cainsville series is out now.😉 The first is Omens though, I'm pretty sure. 7y
TK-421 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa You're right! Visions is book two! 🤦‍♀️ Editing my post now! (edited) 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa But I can promise the Cainsville series will fly by fast. 7y
TK-421 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I'm sure it will! 7y

I have a tonne of 'W' books and several 'U' and 'V' books, so I thought I'd narrow it down my #StartsWithUVW picks to those I intend to read this year. I've been rereading the Landover series, so I'll be starting Witches' Brew as soon as I finish The Tangle Box. Under Pressure and Visions are my #LitsyAtoZ picks for 'U' and 'V'. #MarchIntoReading #TBR
