Two girls are forced to escape Ethiopia to avoid famine and war. Despite being from different religious backgrounds, who often fear and hate each other, the girls learn to trust and rely on each other. I would have liked more information on the background of the conflict they were running from. There was some at the end of the book but more would have been nice. #foodandlit @Butterfinger @Texreader

Butterfinger I have noticed Jane Kurtz has written many books on Ethiopia. 3y
Tamra There has long been political strife between Eritrea and Ethiopia, and a war when Eritrea fought for independence. We have two friends who ended up in the Kenyan refugee camps before winning the visa lottery to come to the US. They and their families were fleeing the war. 3y
