pickWOW. The autobiography of Mary Todd Lincoln‘s dressmaker: born a slave, bought her freedom (and her son‘s), then became a seamstress for many famous political wives and daughters of the time. This is a first hand account of life in the Lincoln White House and the financial drama that followed Mrs Lincoln after the assassination. These were fairly scandalous revealings about the First Lady during this time in society. Easy reading. I recommend it.
