Mehso-so

The book was okay, but got repetitive towards the end. There were so many people involved in both the defense and prosecution of each of the KKK members, sometimes it was hard to remember who was who. I wish Mitchell had included photos of the victims at the end.

WorldsOkayestStepMom *just to clarify, I don't mean graphic photos of the victims, I mean photos from when they were living their lives. 1y

The influence of this book expands well beyond the pages. I appreciate how Mitchell takes the reader through every step of his investigatory process so we can watch as he builds his case. He really provides the reader with insight into the Mississippian mentality and culture. The fact that he helps with four similar cases in this book makes it a bit repetitive by the end, but still a fascinating read.

Nonfiction about a journalist who investigates civil rights crimes before all the players pass on or lose their memory.

1. I keep and donate both. And I also LOVE to share them with friends and fellow bookworms.

2. Sometimes I can devour a book in days, but I'm in no rush and it can take me a couple of weeks to a couple of months.

3. It was a Paul Pembray novel, and I couldn't remember the title.

These words are found in the epilogue of Race Against Time. People would be wise to realize this is happening in 2020. I'm a West coast girl who moved to the south ten years ago (MO) and this bullshit is very real here. And I'm NEVER quiet about revulsion for it, no matter who it is. Some don't like that....tough shit I say.

I finally got my turn at the library. 🤙So happy to finally be reading Jerry Mitchell's writing on this dark subject in our history. For those not familiar with Mitchell, he's an amazing investigative journalist who doggidly chased this story for decades. Thanks to him, other journalists, committed attorneys, and countless law enforcement many klansman were prosecuted and sent to prison. But the story continues...unfortunately.

My history classes really whitewashed how deadly Reconstruction, Jim Crow & the reaction to civil rights movement were. Honestly, it‘s inexcusable that (white) students can graduate with no understanding of the violence threatened by just existing in the wrong place at the wrong time - much less participating in active activism against the systems designed to keep white people in power.

I was feeling a little bummed there weren't many new releases coming in 2020 that were on my radar, so I looked at Apple books' list of anticipated winter releases and found several #Nonfiction titles that sound fascinating! From heroic investigative journalism (tagged), to dangerous cults protected by the government and the true story behind The Green Book, these are all must-reads for me next year! #NFNov
