This may be the last Paris- based book I read before heading off to Paris! It‘s a little dry but still the history of the louver itself is interesting. I just watched a video about how to visit Paris in three hours. The couple said they had done lots of research & had a plan to see a certain number of artworks. Within the first three minutes of the video they were lost and overwhelmed! Lol 😂 https://youtu.be/ztooRABUeyk #Paris! #France 🇫🇷

mabell I have to watch this! 😂 2y

This year my reading has been Paris- themed. I‘m excited to say I‘m heading to Paris next week. My 2nd European trip in my 61 years. (OMG where has time gone?! That‘s a big number!) It‘s never too late!! I‘m hoping to stop by Shakespeare & Co and The Red Wheelbarrow bookstores in between my unrealistic museum escapades. (The itinerary is just for a possible backbone guide- I know it‘s unrealistic)
#Paris! #France🇫🇷

vlwelser Did you get the city pass? It's good for museums and the metro. 2y
Angitron How wonderful! Have a fantastic time!!! 2y
tpixie @vlwelser thanks!! I ended up getting The Museum Pass & will get the Navigo Découverte for metro/ bus. It was hard to figure out what to do. 2y

tpixie @Angitron thanks! I wish I would‘ve gone as a college student/young adult when I was almost fluent in French! I‘ve lost most of it, but I‘m sure we will still have fun! 2y
vlwelser I'm so excited for you! I love Paris. Have a great trip! 2y
Lindy So many great museums! I‘m a huge fan of the impressionists, so I‘m glad to see Orsay, Orangerie and Marmottan on your list. At the Pompidou, I usually skip whatever big exhibit is featured so that I can spend lots of time in the permanent collection. At the Louvre, my favourite section is ancient Mesopotamia. Oh, I‘m full of happy memories! Have a wonderful trip! 2y
tpixie @Lindy thanks for your insights! I think I‘m actually more excited to go to Orsay than the Louvre because of the impressionists! I‘ll check out ancient Mesopotamia! 2y
tpixie @vlwelser thanks! You enjoy your trip to Iceland 🇮🇸 2y
Susanita Oo La La! Have a great trip! 2y

I enjoyed this, although it was very dense. It‘s really NOT about the museum, but rather a history of France through the lens of a plot of land called the Louvre, which through many and varied incarnations, came to be the world-famous museum we know and love. Be prepared to do a LOT of googling of images, maps, artworks, events, etc.

Aims42 Ooo sounds interesting! 👍🏻 3y
TheBookHippie I just picked this up at the library!!!!! 3y
CaramelLunacy That sounds fascinating 3y

Mehso-so

-picture from 1 of my trips to the Louvre-This is hard to give feedback on, mainly because I am just not the right kind of reader for this book. This no doubt a thorough and well researched book, it was full of detail, too much detail for me, I got lost in all the facts fairly early on and it was a little overwhelming. I would recommend this for avid history and/or architecture fans. Thank you #netgalley for ARC to review, release in May 2020

Cinfhen Uh ohhhh...just got this ARC 😬 4y
Maude @Cinfhen , it wasn't a bad book, just very heavy on dates and military/political history. I'm horrible in those areas, I zone out 😊 4y
Cinfhen It sounds a little to dry for me too...I guess I‘m about to find out 4y
