The Fall of Butterflies
The Fall of Butterflies | Andrea Portes
10 posts | 9 read | 7 to read
We Were Liars meets Looking for Alaska in a uniquely funny and heartbreaking teen novel about a passionate-yet-doomed friendship set against a backdrop of wealth and glamour. Willa Parker, 646th and least-popular resident of What Cheer, Iowa, is headed east to start a new life. Did she choose this life? No, because that would be too easy—and nothing in Willa’s life is easy. It’s her famous genius mother’s idea to send her to ultra-expensive, ultra-exclusive Pembroke Prep, and Willa has no intention of fitting in. But when she meets peculiar, glittering Remy Taft, the richest, most mysterious girl on campus, she starts to see a foothold in this foreign world—a place where she could maybe, possibly, sort of fit in. When Willa looks at Remy, she sees a girl who has everything. But for Remy, having everything comes at a price. And as she spirals out of control, Willa can feel Remy spinning right out of her grasp. Andrea Portes, author of the hilarious, heartbreaking Anatomy of a Misfit, spins a similarly incandescent, heartfelt story that explores the meaning of friendship, new beginnings, and the precarious joy and devastating pain of finding home in a place—a person—with wings.

Mehso-so

Eehhh!! From the start I don't like the narration of the character, I thought that it will change at the middle of the story but.... NO:( aside from that I like the friendship that is involve in the story. It's just the writing style that doesn't match to my taste😟😫😣😣

A beautiful book cover with a great title that totally disappointed me this year.

And I give up on this book...I'm just going to quietly say I don't recommend it- I really don't want to rant right now so, here's me quitting the book with no further comment.

Bailedbailed

Nope... I gave it 50 pages, NOTHING happened. This book is no show all tell. While there are definitely some people who will dig Willa's snarky-borderline insufferably rude-narration, I do not... at all. I hate bailing on books, but I just couldn't get into the character and that's all this book is.

That thing where you get really nervous because a book you've been dying to read opens with really offensive ableist language and you're scared to keep going...

StephTKO I'd be curious to see the offending quote. 8y
KatyAliceReads @StephTKO it's a whole few pages where the narrator describes the people around (a person with a severe allergy, a person with headgear and worst a person with obsessive compulsive disorder) as "freaks" repeatedly. 8y

When the one you love has wings, how can you keep them from the sky?
