I finished my second 9/11 book of the month last night.

The one on the left is a new release and a great addition to any library. It is solely an oral history, told from an abundance of perspectives. Very well done.

The tagged book was written by a man that was in tower one when the plane hit. He escaped—this is his story as well as the stories of other survivors. It‘s an important perspective but his exclamatory sentences turned me off.

Cinfhen I was curious about the book not tagged. Is it too similar to the Zuckoff??? I just finished that book yesterday and I‘m still completely exhausted and emotionally drained. I think that was the BEST NF I ever “read” ( I listened on audio) Brilliant ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 5y

Reviewsbylola So I read the Zuckoff earlier this year. I‘d say it was my favorite of the three, but I think they all complement each other well. There are so many personal stories to tell about 9/11 that even after all I‘ve read, there‘s so much I don‘t know. Only Plane is different because it is solely oral histories. Instead of giving a lot of information about the events of that day, it‘s a transcription of people telling the events and their experiences ⤵️ 5y
Reviewsbylola in their own words. And it‘s short blurbs. Think Daisy Jones and the Six. It can be tiresome to read at times but I have it five stars! As for the tagged book, again, it was a lot of stories that were unknown to me. The perspectives were new too. People down in the lobbies, down in the mall, but still just as close to death as those high in the towers. The writing was pretty bad because the author ended every other sentence with ! And I think ⤵️ 5y
Reviewsbylola that is so unnecessary in a book like this. Short, declarative sentences have a huge impact so the endless ! really annoyed me. I gave it three stars for that reason alone. @cinfhen 5y
Reviewsbylola That one is new to me but I know of the story of their escape. Thanks! Stacking. @Susanita 5y
MicheleinPhilly That cover on the right is terrible. 5y
Reviewsbylola It was taken by one of the people in the book. Possibly the author? I can‘t remember, only that whoever it was had escaped tower one and heard the impact of the second plane. In that split second they turned around and took the pic. 😱 @MicheleinPhilly 5y
Cinfhen Thanks, Steph. Maybe I‘ll try the audio for Only People 5y
Cinfhen @MicheleinPhilly well that explanation changes everything 😛 5y
Amiable @MicheleinPhilly I agree. All I can think when I see that cover image is how it must be so painful for the family members to have to look at it and know that's the actual moment of impact when their loved one was killed. 5y
MicheleinPhilly @Amiable I lost a friend when that second tower collapsed so I‘m sensitive to the imagery and try to avoid it. This particular cover just feels sort of exploitative. 5y
Reviewsbylola I‘m sorry @MicheleinPhilly ♥️♥️ That‘s a horrible loss. I didn‘t think about the fact that even though it‘s a book cover, it still can bring back horrible memories for all involved. I tend to desensitize myself by constantly looking at awful images and sometimes I have a lack of foresight in that regard. @Amiable (edited) 5y
MicheleinPhilly Oh no, I‘m not criticizing you for posting it! I just think it was a poor choice on the part of the publisher. No worries! ❤️ 5y
Amiable @Reviewsbylola @MicheleinPhilly is right—you didn‘t put the picture on the cover of the book! Don‘t feel bad for your post. You just gave an honest review about a book. 5y
Reviewsbylola Thank you ♥️♥️ I just feel bad even posting it knowing that it could be an intense trigger just for people to scroll thru in their feed. @amiable @MicheleinPhilly 5y
britt_brooke @MicheleinPhilly I completely agree. I felt similarly about another cover recently. Just feels insensitive. I‘m so sorry you lost a friend that day. 😔 5y
britt_brooke Great reviews(s)! And thank you for additional explanations in the comments. Very helpful! 5y
