Experience the sultry Southern atmosphere of Atlanta and the magic of the Carolina Lowcountry in this funny and poignant tale of one audacious womans quest to find the love she deserves, from New York Times bestselling author Dorothea Benton Frank. Leslie Anne Greene Carter is The Last Original Wife among her husband Wesleys wildly successful Atlanta social set. His cronies have all traded in the mothers of their children they promised to love and cherishtil death did them partfor tanned and toned young Barbie brides. If losing the social life and close friends she adored wasnt painful enough, a series of setbacks shake Less world and push her to the edge. Shes had enough of playing the good wife to a husband who thinks hes doing her a favor by keeping her around. Shes not going to waste another minute on people she doesnt care to know. Now, shes going to take some time for herselfin the familiar comforts and stunning beauty of Charleston, her beloved hometown. In her brothers stately historic home, shes going to reclaim the carefree girl who spent lazy summers sharing steamy kisses with her first love on Sullivans Island. Along Charlestons live oak- and palmetto-lined cobblestone streets, under the Lowcountrys dazzling blue sky, Les will indulge herself with icy cocktails, warm laughter, divine temptation and bittersweet memories. Daring to listen to her inner voice, she will realize what she wants . . . and find the life of which shes always dreamed. Told in the alternating voices of Les and Wes, The Last Original Wife is classic Dorothea Benton Frank: an intoxicating tale of family, friendship, self-discovery, and love, that is as salty as a Lowcountry breeze and as invigorating as a dip in Carolina waters on a sizzling summer day.

Pickpick

As Leslie Carter's friends start getting divorced and the husbands marry younger wives, she starts thinking about her own marriage, and decides she wants to start living life for herself instead of for a husband who takes her for granted.

Today‘s Prompt: Bravery

Leslie Carter was a stay-at-home wife/mother who pinched pennies all her life and was starting to wonder why she did especially when she accidentally found a bank statement that had a balance of 22 million dollars.

You will love Leslie for how genuine she is, how believable she is, and how brave she is to finally do something to make herself happy.

vkois88 22 million dollars??? Holy cow 6y

This book is a gem 💎♥️ I‘ve laughed my way through the whole book. I‘ve got a few chapters left, and then I‘ll be off to bed. Unfortunately I work this weekend.

TNbookworm I ❤ Dorothea Benton Frank! 6y
Clwojick @TNbookworm I have never heard of her before! But I simply loved this book, so I went and put three of her others on hold. Also, the narrator for this audiobook was amazing too! ♥️♥️♥️ Do you have any favourites that you would recommend? 6y
TNbookworm @Clwojick I really loved her first book Plantation. I also loved Full of Grace but honestly I love all her books. Her latest By Invitation Only is really good too. If you like Frank's style you need to check out Mary Kay Andrews as well. Love MKA too! 6y
Clwojick @TNbookworm I have read a ton of MKA 6y
TNbookworm @Clwojick I actually met MKA several years ago at our library's Frlends of the Library meeting and she is such a friendly and gracious person. My daughter was 12 at the time and MKA talked to her about her writing process and was so sweet to her! I hope you enjoy DBF as much as MKA😊 6y

I‘m about an hour into this audiobook, and I‘m enjoying it so far. I‘ve found myself chuckling quite a bit at how spunky the main character is. Work has been stressful, and wedding planning is getting a little intense... so I‘m really looking forward to a simple and fun light read (listen).
