At my favorite bookstore in the world #homeralaska #observanceofhermits I picked up some beautiful copies of Twain, including his letters from Hawaii.

Pickpick

Day 20 #SeptemberPhotoChallenge #bookssetbythesea My sea-set pick is Mark Twain's travel letters from a 1866 trip to the Hawaiian Islands. Written when he was 31, his trip underwritten by a Sacramento newspaper, I wouldn't call this Twain's best-but considering it was written 150 years ago, it's a fascinating & humorous observation of Hawaii in that era. Warning: There are moments of cringe-worthy racism common for the times.🌴🍍#somethingforsept
