Burnt Mountain
Burnt Mountain | Anne Rivers Siddons
8 posts | 6 read | 7 to read
From one of our most acclaimed writers comes this dramatic tale of a well-born Southern woman whose life is forever changed by the betrayal of her mother and by the man she loves Growing up, the only place tomboy Thayer Wentworth felt at home was at her summer camp - Camp Sherwood Forest in the North Carolina Mountains. It was there that she came alive and where she met Nick Abrams, her first love...and first heartbreak. Years later, Thayer marries Aengus, an Irish professor, and they move into her deceased grandmother's house in Atlanta, only miles from Camp Edgewood on Burnt Mountain where her father died years ago in a car accident. There, Aengus and Thayer lead quiet and happy lives until Aengus is invited up to the camp to tell old Irish tales to the campers. As Aengus spends less time at home and becomes more distant, Thayer must confront dark secrets-about her mother, her first love, and, most devastating of all, her husband.

I stuck with it, even as the story became more and more unbelievable. There was a big buildup and then it fizzled at the slightly creepy and disappointing ending.

I literally have no clue what I read. It wasn't up until chapter six that I started tolerating it, in a way. I don't know if it was just that I read wrong or something, but the words at times just didn't make sense to me. Confusing would have to be an appropriate word.

MrBook Meh on the book. Yeah on the pool! 😊 8y
DanaKristine I agree! 7y

Last day at the hotel😭 As for the book, it's been getting better, no longer as confusing nor dreadful as in the beginning.

MrBook Nice pic regardless 😊👍🏻. 8y

This is my current read... I bought when I was younger, but I'm reading it now. I'm not liking it so far... Does anyone know if it's worth it? Or if the author is any good at least? #BurntMountain #AnneRiversSiddons

DanaKristine Not worth it! 7y
