At a lush villa on the sun-soaked island of Madeira, Martin Radford is given a second chance. His life ruined by scandal, Martin holds in his hands the leather-bound journal of another ruined man, former British cabinet minister Edwin Strafford. Whats more, Martin is being offered a jobto return to England and investigate the rise and fall of Strafford, an ambitious young politician whose downfall, in 1910, is as mysterious as the strange deaths that still haunt his family. Martin is intrigued by Strafford s story, by the mans overwhelming love for a beautiful suffragette, by her inexplicable rejection of him and their love affairs political repercussions. But as he retraces Straffords ruination, Martin realizes that Strafford did not fall by chance; he was pushed. Suddenly Martin, who has not cared for many people in his life, cares desperatelyabout a mans mysterious death and a familys terrible secret, about a love beyond reckoning and betrayal beyond imagining. Most of all Martin cares because the story he is uncovering is not yet overand among the men and women still caught in its web, Martin himself may be the most vulnerable of all.

#NutsinMay @Andrew65
Book 3 of 6
A disgraced historian is recruited to find out the truth of a memoir uncovered in the mans home in Madeira. Why did the love of Edwins life reject him? What are the answers to the tragic deaths of his family members?
This was another story with twists and turns. Recommend

Andrew65 Love Robert Goddard, and this wouldn‘t even be one of my favourite ones. 4y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 he dies get wordy at times, and sometimes the twists go on too long. And yes the end was a bit unsatisfying but still good, for my second book by him. I'm waiting for this one to come 4y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi That is one of the very best, in my opinion. 4y
