It can be hard to write a story about depression and suicide that doesn‘t become didactic or heavy-handed but this book handled its portrayal very sensitively, I thought. Nor is the book a downer—there‘s a lot of tenderness and intimacy in its exploration of different kinds of human connection. What really sticks with me is how great a job this book did in depicting both the experience of depression and the experience of infatuation.

Continuing to try to diversify our Brit Lit curriculum... I appreciate that the main character here is bisexual but the book isn‘t *about* her sexuality; it‘s about mental health and relationships in many forms. Not sure about teaching it though. The sex is more gratuitous than what I‘m used to reading (YA is typically my jam); students probably wouldn‘t mind but their parents might. #teachersoflitsy

5/5🌟This is such a gorgeous novel! Buchana's prose are rich and very moving. How she has captured the complexities of relationships was so captivating. This story is beautiful and gave me so many feels. #bookblogger #bookstagram

There are many stand-out sentences that made me consider how Buchanan uses language in a way few would, but in a way that bleeds beauty through the page. There‘s a dull, aching quality that stands out, allowing me to indulge in a hundred pages in a sitting as the main characters, husband & wife, remain in place, together but apart, pondering what the hell they're going to do next and whether or not that will include staying together and/or alive.

Nute Excellent review! 4y
