Pickpick

I feel like I "rediscover" Roald Dahl's adult fiction every few years and am always shocked anew at how dark and disturbing much of it is. I'm not sure why, considering it's the same guy who came up with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Witches. These stories are every bit as twisted as their children's counterparts, but more importantly, well-plotted and featuring last-second twists that put a perfect bow on everything that came before.

Tera66 Ooooh! I have never heard of this one. Adding to my TBR.😃 3y

Had a bookcase donated to me, so can finally put out some more books instead of keeping them in boxes and bags!
Glad I've got my Roald Dahl collection (plus others on another bookshelf!) on display again ❤

These stories are dark and most if not all ended with a twist. There were three that seemed to try to imitate Hemingway (maybe that was intentional on Dahl‘s part?) and liked those the least. But overall a pick!

I read this on my ancient iPad 2, and after finishing dropped it and I can‘t revive it in any way 😭! Don‘t know how I‘ll manage at the fitness center now.

Hoping to read one more Dahl this week for #authoramonth but I‘ve been so busy!

Soubhiville Oh no, sorry to hear about your iPad! Maybe time to get a kindle? 4y

ValerieAndBooks @Soubhiville my husband has one he never uses, so I‘ll try borrowing it for now. Have to figure out how to read Libby (library app) on it! Ultimately I know I prefer an iPad but that‘ll have to wait quite a while 🤷🏻‍♀️. 4y
ValerieAndBooks @Soubhiville thanks 😊. I have two of his more-adult books in my physical TBR, so will try to finish at least one by Sunday! 4y

Some stories that inspired Tales of the Unexpected. Probably innovative and shocking when they first appeared but now rather meh.

As would be expected, I really like some stories and others were not even at my table, let alone my cup of tea.
