No Place Like Oz
No Place Like Oz: A Dorothy Must Die Prequel Novella | Danielle Paige
There's a new wicked witch in Ozand her name is Dorothy. This 125-page digital novella is a fresh and edgy sequel to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum and the prequel to the sassy new epic adventure Dorothy Must Die. No Place Like Oz, by debut author Danielle Paige, is a compellingly original reimagining of a beloved classic and is perfect for fans of Cinder by Marissa Meyer, Beastly by Alex Flinn, and Wicked by Gregory Maguire.Dorothy clicked her heels three times and returned to Kansas. The end . . . or was it? Although she's happy to be home with Aunt Em, Dorothy has regretted her decision to leave Oz ever since. So when a mysterious gift arrives at her doorstep on her sixteenth birthday, Dorothy jumps at the chance to return to the glittering city that made her a star.Setting off for the Emerald City, Dorothy is eager to be reunited with her friends: the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion. But she soon discovers that in the time she's been gone, Oz has changedand Dorothy has, too. This time, the yellow brick road leads her down a very different path. And before her journey is through, Dorothy will find that the line between wicked and good has become so blurred she's not sure which side of it she's on.

4/5 for this! This prequel novella was really good. You get to see how Dorothy was before the magic. This is the story of how she got to be the evil Dorothy. I felt for her. This made me feel bad for her at least until the end. I will definitely read the other novellas.

Wow! What a great read!

I thoroughly enjoyed this novella. It tells us how Dorothy returns to Oz but leaves you wondering why... why exactly has she returned? It leaves you wondering, Who is 'good' and who is 'bad'...?

Who was Dorothy's mother... was she linked to Oz...? Who is and where did Glinda come from?

I am very much looking forward to reading the rest of the series 👍🏼👍🏼

I liked this because it's a prequel to Dorothy Must Die, but it also almost acts like an epilogue to the original Oz story. It's fun to think about what happened to Dorothy after she left Oz, and how magic can corrupt anyone. ☀️☀️☀️🌤

I've been working on an essay for the last five(ish) hours, that means it's time to read, right?

Bookbeez Of course. Have to give your brain frequent reading breaks. 7y

I really loved Dorothy Must Die, so I decided to start reading the 10 prequel novellas before I move on to the second book in the series. No Place Like Oz gives the backstory of when Dorothy went back to Oz, two years after her first trip. She becomes discontented with her dreary Kansas life and longs for something more. She returns to Oz and it shows her slow descent into evil. I really loved this book and can't wait for book 2. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I wasn't sure if I should read Dorothy Must Die book 1st or where the prequel books come into the series. Will look up and see the correct "reading order". Really liking the retelling of a classic story!

If you liked the first one, this is worth a read. It explains a lot about what happened to Dorothy between saving Oz and becoming a psycho dictator. I don't hate this series, but it builds painfully slow. Still, I'm invested enough to read on and to allow myself to wonder what it means to be wicked!

Can we just stop with the retellings? Won't be reading any more of these. #popsugar #bookandsequel

readinginthedark That's too bad! I didn't read this prequel, but the first in the series wasn't bad. I'm on the second. 8y
Greg @readinginthedark I just read the first one too and the original Wizard of Oz. maybe I crammed too much Oz into my week. 8y
readinginthedark @Greg Possible. I hadn't read or seen any other Oz-related things for a while when I read it. Of course, it's still not amazing, but worth at least one read I think. Guess I'll let you know if I feel the same when I get further in the series. 8y
