Paths of Glory
Paths of Glory | Jeffrey Archer
This is the story of a man who loved two women, and one of them killed him. Some people have dreams that are so outrageous that if they were to achieve them, their place in history would be guaranteed. Francis Drake, Robert Scott, Percy Fawcett, Charles Lindbergh, Amy Johnson, Edmund Hillary and Neil Armstrong are among such individuals. But what if one man had such a dream, and when he'd fulfilled it, there was no proof that he had achieved his ambition? Paths of Glory is the story of such a man. But not until you've turned the last page of Jeffrey Archer's extraordinary novel, will you be able to decide if George Mallory should be added to this list of legends, because if he were, another name would have to be removed. 'Archer at the peak of his imaginative powers' The Times 'Paths of Glory will lead Archer to fans he has never before conquered' The Independent 'The plain storytelling is unimprovable. Few literary writers could do his job better' Sunday Times

Took 25 books to this “take one, leave one” book trolley at the mall, and found this one! For once it went this way, but very satisfied 🙂

Pickpick

A low pick because I certainly had a lot of feelings while reading this. The overriding feeling is one of futility. It seems like such a waste that Mallory died on Everest when he could have stayed safe after the first expedition. But then again I am not at all adventurous 🙃 Great narration on audio by Roger Allam.

What‘s more #adventurous than trying to be the first person to conquer Mount Everest. This is a great fictionalised account of George Mallory‘s exploits leading up to, and including, his attempt on Everest. Was he the first person to conquer the mountain?!? I recommend this book.

A real shame Everest cost him his life. If only we knew if he conquered Everest before he was killed. We‘ll most probably never know! #Mountain #QuotsyDec18

I recommend the tagged book which is a fictionalised version of his life, thoroughly enjoyable.

TrishB This is one of those rare cases where I can‘t read an author because they personally offend me! He seems like a horrible person and I can‘t give him any of my money!! Luckily it‘s rare 😁 6y
Andrew65 @TrishB I do know exactly what you mean as I do find myself in conflict with him. Can‘t stand him as a person, what he stands for, has done and his politics. But he can write. 6y
TrishB A couple of my friends read him and I know he writes a good story, which just doesn‘t seem fair 🤷‍♀️ 6y

Andrew65 @TrishB Most Definitely. Certainly not an author I‘d buy but have read from the library. I discovered him from Kane and Abel in my teens before I knew of him, then didn‘t read anything from him until the past two - three years with the Clifton Chronicles. I admire your principles 👍 6y
vkois88 I don't think I've ever been too interested in hid writing, honestly. I know he was pretty popular with customers when I worked at the used bookstore... 6y
vkois88 *his (sorry, wiggly baby lol) 6y
Andrew65 @vkois88 Despite everything I do enjoy his writing and loved The Clifton Chronicles. 6y

#NoteworthyNovember #Mountains Loved this book by Jeffrey Archer which told George Mallory's story and his pursuit to climb Mount Everest. This had a light and easy reading style, but it is a book that has stayed with me - especially the ending! 😢
